For those of us who like to make EVERYTHING ourselves -- an original wonton wrapper recipe. Use the wonton wrappers to form tasty little dumplings stuffed with your favorite fillings.

Yield 72 wonton squares

Number Of Ingredients 4

1 egg
⅓ cup water
2 cups all-purpose flour
½ teaspoon salt

Steps:

  • In a medium bowl, beat the egg. Mix in the water.
  • In a large bowl, combine the flour and salt. Create a well in the center of the mixture and slowly pour in the egg and water. Mix well. If the mixture is too dry, increase the amount of water one teaspoon at a time until a pliable dough has formed.
  • On a lightly floured surface, knead the dough until elastic. Cut dough into two separate balls. Cover the balls with a damp cloth for a minimum of 10 minutes.
  • Cut each ball into four equal pieces. Roll the pieces into 10 1/2 by 10 1/2 inch squares. Cut each into nine 3 1/2 by 3 1/2 inch squares. Use in any recipe that calls for wonton wrappers.

Easy Wonton Soup — Let's Dish Recipes image

This shortcut version of wonton soup uses frozen dumplings or wontons for a quick and easy Asian-style meal that's ready in minutes!

Number Of Ingredients 10

6 cups chicken broth
1 tablespoon soy sauce
1 clove garlic, minced
1 teaspoon freshly grated ginger
1 cup shredded carrots
4 green onions, thinly sliced
20 frozen pot stickers
1/4 teaspoon sesame oil
Salt and pepper, to taste
Chopped fresh cilantro, for garnish (optional)

Steps:

  • In a large dutch oven, combine the chicken broth, soy sauce, garlic, and ginger. Bring to a boil.
  • Add carrots, green onions and frozen pot stickers to the pot. Simmer until pot stickers are tender, 8-10 minutes (or according to package directions).
  • Remove from heat and stir in sesame oil. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  • Ladle into bowls and sprinkle with chopped fresh cilantro, if desired.

Stir in crab, green onions and red pepper; spoon into wonton cups. Sprinkle with Parmesan cheese. , Bake until filling is heated through, 10-12 minutes. Serve warm. If desired, garnish with minced chives. Refrigerate leftovers.
