SWEET AND SOUR PORK (???) | MADE WITH LAU

Sweet and Sour Pork (???) | Made With Lau image

Learn how to make one of the world's most popular takeout dishes, right at home!

Provided by Made With Lau

Total Time 45 minutes

Prep Time 20 minutes

Cook Time 25 minutes

Yield 3

Number Of Ingredients 19

10 oz pork shoulder butt
4 oz pineapple
1 oz red bell pepper
1 oz yellow bell pepper
1 oz green bell pepper
1 oz red onion
1 oz yellow onion
corn oil
1 tsp garlic salt
0.5 egg
1 tbsp light soy sauce
2 tbsp all-purpose flour
3 tbsp cornstarch
4 tbsp ketchup
4 tbsp brown sugar
3 tbsp vinegar
1 tsp cornstarch
0.5 tsp salt
2 tbsp water

Steps:

  • First, we'll cut our pork into a few pieces, parallel to the grain. Then, we'll slice pieces perpendicular to the grain, into about 1/4 to 1/2 inch pieces.
  • These are all basically optional, but we'll cut our bell peppers into triangles (red bell peppers, yellow bell peppers, green bell peppers), and red onions, yellow onions into small pieces.
  • We'll create our sauce with ketchup, brown sugar, vinegar, cornstarch, salt, and water. Mix it thoroughly for about 45 to 60 seconds.
  • Add flour to the marinated pork and massage for about 1-2 minutes to coat the pork evenly in the flour. You may need to add dashes of water to help spread the flour around.
  • As with our Honey Walnut Shrimp and General Tso's Chicken recipes, we'll be frying our pork twice - a first time to cook it, a second to bring out the crunchiness.
  • We're close to being done!

HONEY WALNUT SHRIMP (?????) | MADE WITH LAU

Honey Walnut Shrimp (?????) | Made With Lau image

Learn how to make this classic Chinese banquet (and takeout) dish at home!

Provided by Made With Lau

Total Time 45 minutes

Prep Time 20 minutes

Cook Time 25 minutes

Yield 4

Number Of Ingredients 16

20 pieces shrimp
0.25 tsp salt
3 oz walnuts
2 tbsp honey
sesame seeds
3 tbsp sugar
2 tbsp water
4 tbsp mayonnaise
3 tbsp sweetened condensed milk
2 tsp lemon juice
4 tbsp all purpose flour
2 tbsp cornstarch
2 tsp baking powder
0.5 egg
7 tbsp water
2 tsp corn oil

Steps:

  • Assuming you're starting with peeled, deveined shrimp (which is what my dad recommends), cut each shrimp in half lengthwise. This will help result in a more beautiful, crunchy fry.
  • In a bowl, we'll mix mayonnaise, sweetened condensed milk, and lemon juice.
  • In a bowl, we'll beat our egg(s).
  • If you don't have honey, or don't want to use honey for whatever reason, you can go with the restaurant route.
  • We'll fill a pan or wok with enough oil to submerge the walnuts, and heat it to around 300F.
  • Read before you start frying shrimp
  • Mix and coat the shrimp with the sauce from earlier, and add the candied walnuts and sesame seeds.
