With so many dishes to cook up on Thanksgiving, you'll love taking a low-maintenance approach to the star dish with this easy roast turkey recipe. 7 ingredients and 20 minutes of prep time are all you need to whip up a juicy and flavorful bird to impress family and friends. This recipe combines McCormick® poultry seasoning, black pepper, and softened butter — leaving you with a beautiful golden-brown turkey that's moist, full of flavor, and crisped to perfection. Reserve pan juices and turkey drippings to make a delicious turkey gravy that pairs just as well with the turkey as with side dishes like garlic mashed potatoes. Serve this juicy roast turkey with green bean casserole, apple cranberry stuffing, and candied sweet potato casserole. Finish the meal with a lavish chocolate pecan pie.

1/2 cup (1 stick) butter softened
2 tbsps poultry seasoning
1 tsp salt
1/2 tsp McCormick® Black Pepper, Ground
1 whole turkey (12 to 14 pounds), fresh or frozen, thawed
1 large onion quartered
2 ribs celery quartered

Steps:

  • Place oven rack in lowest position. Preheat oven to 325°F. Place roasting rack in shallow roasting pan. Mix butter, poultry seasoning, salt and pepper in small bowl.
  • Place turkey, breast-side up, in prepared pan. Rub 2 tablespoons butter mixture inside cavity of turkey. Stuff with onion and celery. Spread remaining butter mixture evenly over turkey and under skin. Cover loosely with heavy duty foil.
  • Roast 2 hours, adding an extra 15 minutes per pound for larger turkeys. Remove foil. Roast 1 hour longer or until internal temperature reaches 165°F (175° in thigh), basting occasionally with pan juices. Remove turkey from oven. Let stand 20 minutes. Transfer to platter or carving board and slice. Reserve pan juices to make gravy, such as our Perfect Turkey Gravy, or to serve with turkey.

1/4 cup flour
3 cups water
1 cup turkey pan drippings
1 cup chopped cooked turkey giblets (optional)

Steps:

  • How to Make Turkey GravyMix Gravy Mix and flour in large saucepan. Gradually stir in water and turkey drippings with wire whisk until smooth. Stir in chopped turkey giblets, if desired.
  • Stirring frequently, cook on medium-high heat until gravy comes to boil. Reduce heat to low; simmer 5 minutes or until thickened, stirring occasionally. (Gravy will continue to thicken upon standing.)
  • Flavorful Twist: White Wine & Herb Turkey Gravy: Prepare gravy as directed, reducing water to 2 1/4 cups. Stir 3 tablespoons white wine and 3/4 teaspoon McCormick® Rubbed Sage into prepared gravy. Tip: For those who follow a gluten-free diet, opt for our two ingredient gluten-free turkey gravy.
