Slow-Cooker BBQ Chicken Recipe: How to Make It image

6 chicken leg quarters, skin removed
3/4 cup ketchup
1/2 cup orange juice
1/4 cup packed brown sugar
1/4 cup red wine vinegar
1/4 cup olive oil
4 teaspoons minced fresh parsley
2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce
1 teaspoon garlic salt
1/2 teaspoon pepper
2 tablespoons plus 2 teaspoons cornstarch
1/4 cup water

Steps:

  • Using a sharp knife, cut through the joint of each leg quarter to separate into 2 pieces. Place chicken in a 4-qt. slow cooker., In a small bowl, mix ketchup, orange juice, brown sugar, vinegar, oil, parsley, Worcestershire sauce, garlic salt and pepper; pour over chicken. Cook, covered, on low until meat is tender, 5-6 hours., Remove chicken to a serving platter; keep warm. Skim fat from cooking juices; pour into a measuring cup to measure 2 cups. Transfer to a small saucepan; bring to a boil. In a small bowl, mix cornstarch and water until smooth; stir into cooking juices. Return to a boil, stirring constantly; cook and stir until thickened, 1-2 minutes. Serve with chicken.

6 chicken drumsticks
1.25 cup bbq sauce
1/4 cup brown sugar
1 tbs paprika
1/2 tsp pepper
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 tbs garlic powder
1/2 tbs onion powder
1/2 tsp mustard
Dash of cayenne

Steps:

  • In a small bowl mix the dry rub together.
  • In the slow cooker, add the in drumsticks and sprinkle the dry rub over and work in with hands.
  • Add in 1 cup of the bbq sauce and cook on low for 6-7 hours.
  • Optional: Once the 6-7 hours is up, remove from slow cooker and place on a sheet pan. Add a little more bbq sauce on top and brush all over the drumsticks, place under broiler for about 2 minutes this will turn the bbq sauce into a glaze. Enjoy

  • Place drumsticks in a 5-qt. slow cooker. In a small bowl, combine the tomato sauce, soy sauce, brown sugar and garlic; pour over chicken. Cover and cook on low until a thermometer reads 170°-175°, 5-6 hours., To serve, remove drumsticks to a 15x10x1-in. pan; arrange in a single layer. Preheat broiler., Skim fat from cooking juices; transfer juices to a small saucepan. Bring liquid to a boil. Combine cornstarch and water until smooth. Gradually stir into the pan. Bring to a boil; cook and stir until thickened, 2 minutes. , Meanwhile, broil chicken 3-4 in. from heat until lightly browned, 2-3 minutes. Brush with sauce before serving. If desired, sprinkle with green onions.
