TUNA NOODLE CASSEROLE II RECIPE | ALLRECIPES

Tuna Noodle Casserole II Recipe | Allrecipes image

This is the old tried and true, 1950's style tuna noodle casserole we remember as kids. Uses ingredients most people have on hand, especially those broken chips at the bottom of the bag that nobody wants to eat. Got to have those chips on top to be real.

Total Time 1 hours 0 minutes

Prep Time 10 minutes

Cook Time 50 minutes

Yield 8 servings

Number Of Ingredients 10

1 (16 ounce) package uncooked pasta shells
2 (5 ounce) cans tuna, drained
1 (10.75 ounce) can condensed cream of mushroom soup
1 (10.75 ounce) can condensed cream of celery soup
1 ¼ cups milk
1 teaspoon salt
¼ teaspoon ground black pepper
1 teaspoon crushed garlic
4 slices processed American cheese
1 ½ cups crushed potato chips

Steps:

  • Boil pasta in lightly salted water for 10 minutes, or until al dente; drain well. Return the pasta to the pot it was cooked in.
  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Spray a 2 1/2 quart casserole dish with cooking spray.
  • Mix tuna with cream of mushroom soup, cream of celery soup, milk, salt, black pepper, and garlic in a medium saucepan. Place pan over medium low heat, and heat through. Alternatively, place these ingredients in a microwave safe dish, and warm in the microwave.
  • Mix tuna mixture with pasta. Spread 1/2 of the noodles into the prepared dish. Arrange the cheese slices over the noodles, then spread the remaining noodle mixture over the cheese. Top with crushed potato chips.
  • Bake, uncovered, for 20 to 30 minutes; cook until the casserole is hot, and the chips begin to brown. Let cool for 10 minutes before serving.

TUNA NOODLE CASSEROLE - JUST A PINCH RECIPES

Tuna Noodle Casserole - Just A Pinch Recipes image

This homemade tuna casserole recipe was a big hit around the Test Kitchen table! The addition of the cream cheese was just as delicious as you would imagine it to be... making this casserole extraordinarily rich and creamy; different from other tuna casseroles. This dish is very comforting and filling. The french fried onions add a nice crunch that mix well with the other layers of the dish. A quick and easy dinner that will become a family favorite.

  • Preheat oven to 375°F. Lightly butter the insides of a large baking dish and set aside.Heat butter in a large heavy saucepan with tall sides over medium to medium-high heat. Add onion and celery and cook until just softened, about 5 to 7 minutes. Stir in garlic and cook for 1 minute more. Sprinkle flour over the top and stir lightly for 1 minute. Slowly add milk and half-and-half, and then simmer until mixture is lightly bubbling and thickened, stirring occasionally for about 5 to 7 minutes. Stir in Parmesan and dry mustard, and then season to taste with salt and pepper. Remove saucepan from heat and stir in peas. While sauce is cooking in the saucepan, cook noodles in a large pot of boiling salted water until just al dente. Drain noodles, reserving 1/2 cup of noodle cooking liquid. Transfer noodles to a very large mixing bowl. Pour warm sauce over noodles. Then add sour cream, Gruyere, dill, and chives, and fold to blend. Add reserved noodle cooking liquid a bit at a time until mixture is creamy and moistened to your liking (you may not want to use the full 1/2 cup of liquid). Fold in tuna, taking care to leave some chunks intact. Transfer mixture to prepared baking dish. Sprinkle with crushed potato chips. Tent dish loosely with foil and bake for 20 to 30 minutes, or until hot throughout. Remove foil and bake uncovered for another 5 to 10 minutes, or until top is golden brown and the filling bubbles. Remove from oven, sprinkle with a bit more fresh chopped dill and chives, and serve immediately.

ONE-PAN TUNA-WHITE BEAN CASSEROLE RECIPE - NYT COOKING
This is not the classic, cream-of-something soup tuna casserole you may be familiar with. It’s based on a recipe for a Breton tuna and white bean gratin from the food writer Diana Henry’s cookbook, “Simple” (Mitchell Beazley, 2016). Several steps were eliminated, and an essential potato chip topping was added, which may put it squarely into tuna casserole territory. But you can call it whatever you like. (This recipe is part of the From the Pantry series, started in the days after the coronavirus lockdown.)
