TOSTONES RELLENOS - TROPICAL CHEESE



Tostones Rellenos - Tropical Cheese image

Preheat oven to 450°F. Into each filling, stir in ½ cup shredded cheese. Fill each cooked plantain cup with some filling.

1 12-ounce package frozen plantain cups
10 oz TROPICAL Queso Blanco, finely shredded
2 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil
1 garlic clove, minced
½ pound small shrimp, peeled and deveined
½ cup diced red bell pepper
1 tablespoon chopped cilantro
1 tablespoon vegetable oil
1 cup diced TROPICAL Smoked Boneless Ham Steaks
½ cup chopped green pepper
1 tablespoon vegetable oil
1 small onion, finely chopped
½ pound ground beef
1 package Sazon with coriander and annatto
¼ cup TROPICAL sofrito
¼ cup tomato sauce
¼ cup water
¼ cup pimento-stuffed olives, sliced
1 tablespoon cider vinegar
Salt and pepper to taste

Steps:

  • 1 Shrimp Filling: In 10-inch skillet over medium heat, in hot oil, cook garlic 1 minute. Add shrimp; cook until shrimp are pink and cook through, stirring frequently. Stir in diced red pepper and chopped cilantro; cook 5 minutes longer.
  • 2 Ham Filling: In 10-inch skillet over medium-high heat in hot oil, cook ham and green pepper until lightly browned on all sides, about 5 minutes, stirring frequently. Remove from heat.
  • 3 Picadillo Filling: In 12-inch skillet, over medium-high heat, in 1 tablespoon hot oil, cook ground beef and onion until well browned, stirring occasionally. Add sofrito and Sazon; cook 5 minutes. Stir in tomato sauce, water, olives and cider vinegar. Over high heat, heat to boiling. Reduce heat to low; cover and simmer 20 minutes, stirring occasionally. Add salt and pepper to taste.
  • 4 Prepare plantain cups as package directs.
  • 5 Preheat oven to 450°F. Into each filling, stir in ½ cup shredded cheese. Fill each cooked plantain cup with some filling. Sprinkle with remaining cheese; cook 5 minutes.

Los Tostones Rellenos no son una receta muy común en Cuba. Pero, cada vez ganan más admiradores. Es fácil de hacer, aunque lleva un poco más de tiempo y recursos. Buen apetito!!

  • Pele el plátano y córtelo en trozos de entre 6 y 8 centímetros de largo.Diferentes cortes del plátano (para tostones normales o para tostón relleno) / CiberCuba CocinaPonga el aceite a fuego medio. Utilice preferentemente una cazuela pequeña o de fondo cóncavo, para que al freír los tostones por segunda vez queden cubiertos por la grasa y sea más fácil dorarlos. Si utiliza una sartén o una cazuela grande y de fondo plano, tendrá que poner el doble de aceite.Fría los plátanos a temperatura media hasta que comiencen a dorarse. Sáquelos, escúrralos sobre papel absorbente y déjelos refrescar mientras continúa friendo el resto.Plátanos para Tostones rellenos / CiberCuba CocinaPara preparar el chatino cóncavo que rellenaremos luego, existen aparatos artesanales. Si no lo tiene, utilice un vaso pequeño y el mortero, tal como puede observar en la foto. En caso de que el plátano se pegue un poco a las paredes del vaso, puede usar un cuchillo para despegarlo delicadamente.Vaso pequeño, mortero, cuchillo y plátano / CiberCuba CocinaCuando tenga los plátanos cóncavos listos, vuelva a freírlos. Cuide que queden cubiertos por completo en el aceite bien caliente, para evitar que se partan. Dórelos y una vez en su punto, escúrralos en papel absorbente.Tostones en aceite caliente / CiberCuba CocinaMientras fríe los plátanos ponga a dorar en una sartén el bacon. Cuando esté listo, añada 100 gramos de queso mozzarella y 100 ml de crema de leche. Remueva bien y salpimiente.El segundo relleno que le proponemos es con atún. En una sartén ponga el atún en aceite y déjelo al fuego medio 1 minuto, añada 100 gramos de queso mozzarella rallado y 100 ml de nata de cocinar. Remueva bien y salpimiente.Atún, mozzarella y nata / CiberCuba CocinaDespués de ajustar el punto de sal de ambas elaboraciones, comience a rellenar los tostones según los termine.Para decorar use el perejil cortado fino, aportará aroma y color a este delicioso plato.Tostones rellenos / CiberCuba CocinaAlgunas personas prefieren remojar los tostones en agua con sal antes de freírlos por segunda vez y no añadirle sal después de fritos. FRIED GREEN PLANTAINS STUFFED WITH SHRIMP, TOSTONES ...
I first ate these in a Cuban restuarant. The first time I tasted these fried green plantains I could not get enough of them. The plantains had been shaped in a bowl like small cup with the shrimp cooked in a wonderful sauce placed inside the little well in the plantain. You can get the little tostone press at any Pharmacia Navaro, store in Miami just go on line and order. They have both presses one for the regular Cuban tostones or the small cup like shaped press to make your fried plantains in the shape of small cups and fry and fill with your favorite filling. Enjoy

  • Tip: I sometimes buy 12 large green plantains and and press out the small cups but do not do they second fry. After I make and press out the cups I wrap in strips of parchment paper putting one cup into the other seperated by the parchment paper then I put into a large freezer bag and freeze. When I am making filled plantain cups I just take out fry each cup the second time and fill with my favorite shrimp or other meat filling. I always keep a supply of plantain cups in the freezer for filling on the spur of the moment. They are great appetizers for when company stops by and you are in a bind for making something nice and fast. LOL
