3 cups water
2 medium tart apples, chopped
1-1/2 cups old-fashioned oats
Dash salt
1/4 cup packed brown sugar
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/4 cup chopped almonds
Optional: Maple syrup and fat-free milk

Steps:

  • In a large saucepan over medium heat, bring water to a boil. Add apples, oats and salt; cook and stir for 5 minutes. , Remove from the heat; stir in brown sugar, cinnamon and vanilla. Cover and let stand for 2 minutes. Sprinkle each serving with almonds. If desired, serve with syrup and milk.

1-1/2 cups water (70° to 80°)
1/4 cup canola oil
1 teaspoon lemon juice
1/4 cup sugar
2 teaspoons salt
3 cups all-purpose flour
1-1/2 cups quick-cooking oats
2-1/2 teaspoons active dry yeast

Steps:

  • In bread machine pan, place all ingredients in order suggested by manufacturer. Select basic bread setting. Choose crust color and loaf size if available. , Bake according to bread machine directions (check dough after 5 minutes of mixing; add 1-2 tablespoons of water or flour if needed)., Freeze option: Securely wrap cooled loaf in foil and then freeze. To use, thaw at room temperature.
