400 grams Pastry flour
200 grams butter
100 grams powdered sugar
2 packets Vanilla sugar
1 small egg
Pastry flour (for the work surface)
100 grams powdered sugar
Red Food coloring
30 silver Sugar pearls

Steps:

  • Sift the flour, then mix with the sugar and vanilla sugar and add the butter in pieces. Add the egg and knead everything with your hands to form a smooth dough. Roll out the dough on a lightly floured surface into 4-5 cm (approximately 1 1/2 - 2 inches) thick bars, then wrap the bars in foil and chill for about 30 minutes.
  • Preheat the oven to 180°C (approximately 350°F). Remove the dough from the foil. Using a very sharp knife, cut the rods into 1 cm (approximately 1/2 inch) thin slices and place on a parchment-lined baking sheet. Bake in the preheated oven on the middle rack for about 12 minutes or until golden.
  • Use a spatula to remove the cookies from the sheet and allow to cool on a wire rack. Mix the powdered sugar with a little water and the red food coloring until thick and creamy. Use parchment paper to form a pastry bag. Snip a small hole at the bottom, about 1-2 mm (approximately 1/10 inch). Fill the pastry bag with the red frosting and decorate the cookies with zigzag lines. Place a silver sugar pearl at the end of the zigzag and allow the frosting to dry.

1-1/3 cups all-purpose flour
3/4 teaspoon baking powder
1/4 teaspoon salt

Steps:

  • In a large bowl, cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in egg and vanilla. Combine dry ingredients; add to creamed mixture and mix well. , Drop by teaspoonfuls 2 in. apart onto ungreased baking sheets. Bake at 350° for 12-15 minutes or until edges are golden brown. Remove to wire racks to cool.
