Crispy Onion Green Bean Casserole

Number Of Ingredients 9

3 tablespoons butter
2 shallots
1½ tablespoons flour
1½ tablespoons Hidden Valley® Original Ranch® Seasoning & Salad Dressing Mix Shaker
1 cup chicken stock
1 cup half-and-half
2 cups Parmesan cheese
1½ pounds green beans
canned fried onions

Steps:

  • In a large sauté pan set over medium heat, melt the butter until foaming. Add the chopped shallots and cook, stirring until softened, about 3 minutes.

  • Sprinkle the flour and the seasoning mix into the pan and stir to coat shallots. Slowly whisk in the chicken stock, whisking out any lumps; then the half and half.

  • Simmer for 2 minutes or just until thickened; then stir in cheese and remove from heat. Combine green beans and onion sauce and pour into a 9x9 casserole dish.

  • Bake for 20 to 25 minutes until liquid has reduced and thickened. Remove from oven and top with crisp onions.

These are FANTASTIC! This recipe was revised from an old family favorite! My southern roots come through on this one! Either way the beans end up melting in your mouth and the cooked bacon adds more flavor! REALLY tasty! Good for cookouts or to compliment any meal!

Number Of Ingredients 5

1 (16 ounce) bag frozen green beans or 2 (14 ounce) cans green beans, do not drain
4 -6 slices bacon
1 large onion, sliced large chunks
1 dash red pepper flakes (optional)
salt and pepper

Steps:

  • Put green beans in pot- if canned add juices, if frozen add water enough to see but not cover beans- cook on medium heat.
  • Fry bacon until cooked but not too crisp- drain on paper towel.
  • Cut onion in large (thick) slices and break rings apart in to beans.
  • Crumble or rip bacon apart add to beans.
  • Add spices to taste.
  • Let cook for a few hours on low heat.
  • If want to serve sooner- turn heat up and cook until water boils down.
  • OR can put in crockpot on low all day long and let simmer.
