This bread recipe was adapted from an early bread machine recipe. I have made changes over the years, some by suggestions of my wife. I do believe everybody smells my bread when it comes out of the oven, because here they come they all want hot bread and butter. It is hard to beleave.

Number Of Ingredients 7

1 cup(s) tempered water +4 teaspoons of dry yeast set aside to proof
5 cup(s) all-purpose flour
1/4 cup(s) sugar
1 teaspoon(s) salt
MIX DRY INGREDIENTS WELL
2 tablespoon(s) canola oil
1 - egg

Steps:

  • Add yeast water and mix well,add tempered water as needed to get a slightly wet though. a stand mixer with dough hook works great for this.
  • Cover and let rise until double, approximately 30 minutes.
  • Turn out on floured board and knee for about five minutes until Dough begins to gets Stiff. Cut into two loaves of bread. Place in greased bread pans and let rise until double. Approximately 30 minutes.
  • Place small pan of water in the lowest part of your oven. Preheat to 350°. Bake about 25 to 30 minutes until crust is golden brown. The water added to your oven makes for a thicker crust.
  • If you would like whole wheat bread. Replace 1 cup of all-purpose flour, with one cup whole wheat flour. This recipe can be used for hot roles or cinnamon rolls to your liking.

2 cups self-rising corn meal mix
1 (8 ounce) can cream-style corn
1 cup sour cream

Steps:

  • Heat oven to 425 degrees F (220 degrees C). Grease a 9 inch iron skillet.
  • In a large bowl, beat the egg. Add milk, oil, sour cream, cream corn, and cornmeal mix; stir until cornmeal is just dampened. Pour batter into greased skillet.
  • Bake for 25 to 30 minutes, or until knife inserted in center comes out clean.
