Swirls of sausage and mustard in pie dough makes a perfect, attractive and delicious offering at parties. The sausage and mustard are rolled up in the dough, sliced like a jelly roll and baked.

Ingredients

2 (9 inch) frozen pie crusts, thawed and ready to bake
1 pound sausage
2 teaspoons prepared mustard

Steps:

Preheat oven to 425 degrees F (220 degrees C). Lightly grease a baking sheet.
Place pie crust dough onto a flat surface. Spread them generously with mustard. Spread 1/2 pound of sausage onto each pie crust. Flatten the sausage down with a spatula. Roll the pie crust mixture up like a jelly roll. Slice the roll into 1/2-inch circular pieces.
Bake for 18 minutes or until sausage is cooked.

Spicy seasoned sausage mixed with cream cheese and wrapped in crescent rolls. For a different variation, add thin slices of pepperoni on the bottom of crescent roll before the sausage mixture and shred cheddar on top of sausage; roll pastry over.

Ingredients

1 pound fresh, ground spicy pork sausage
1 (8 ounce) package cream cheese
2 (8 ounce) packages refrigerated crescent rolls
1 egg white, lightly beaten
1 tablespoon poppy seeds

Steps:

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
In a medium skillet, lightly brown sausage and drain. While sausage is still hot, add cream cheese and stir until cheese is melted and mixture is creamy. Cool completely.
Separate crescent rolls and arrange into two rectangles. Form log of sausage mixture lengthwise down center of each rectangle. Fold over the long sides of pastry to cover sausage log. Place on ungreased cookie sheet, seam down. Brush with egg white and sprinkle with poppy seeds.
Bake 20 minutes until crust is golden. When completely cooled, slice into one and one-half inch slices.

Add sausage; mix lightly but thoroughly., On a lightly floured surface, roll each pastry sheet into an 11x10-1/2-in. rectangle. Cut lengthwise into 3 strips. Spread 1/2 cup sausage mixture lengthwise down the center of each strip. Fold over sides, pinching edges to seal. Cut each log into 6 pieces., Place on a rack in a 15x10x1-in. pan, seam side down. Sprinkle with remaining 1/4 teaspoon paprika. Bake until golden brown and sausage is no longer pink, 20-25 minutes.

In a small bowl, dissolve yeast in warm water. In a large bowl, combine sugar, salt, 1 cup flour, oil, egg and the yeast mixture; beat on medium speed until smooth. Stir in enough remaining flour to form a soft dough (dough will be sticky). , Do not knead. Place in a greased bowl, turning once to grease the top. Cover and refrigerate overnight., For filling, in a small bowl, mix sugar, cinnamon and nutmeg. Punch down dough; turn onto a lightly floured surface. Roll into a 18x8-in. rectangle. Spread with butter to within 1/2 in. of edges; sprinkle with sugar mixture. Roll up jelly-roll style, starting with a long side; pinch seam to seal.
