Easy Swedish Meatball Sauce Recipe | Allrecipes image

A quick but very tasty sauce to add to already prepared frozen meatballs. This recipe makes a generous amount of sauce for a 1/2 package (20 oz) of meatballs. Serve over egg noodles or rice.

1 cup beef stock
1 cup heavy cream
3 tablespoons all-purpose flour
1 tablespoon soy sauce
1 teaspoon ground black pepper
½ teaspoon dried rosemary
½ (20 ounce) package frozen cooked meatballs, thawed

Steps:

  • Whisk together the beef stock, heavy cream, flour, soy sauce, black pepper, and rosemary in a large saucepan until smooth. Cook and stir over low heat until thickened, about 10 minutes, stirring occasionally. Stir in the meatballs, and continue cooking until meatballs are heated through, about 5 more minutes.

1 small onion, chopped
1 large egg
1/4 cup seasoned bread crumbs
2 tablespoons 2% milk
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/8 teaspoon pepper
1 pound ground beef
SAUCE:
1 can (10-3/4 ounces) condensed cream of mushroom soup, undiluted
1/2 cup sour cream
1/4 cup 2% milk
1 tablespoon dried parsley flakes
1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg, optional
Hot cooked noodles
Minced fresh parsley, optional

Steps:

  • In a large bowl, combine the onion, egg, bread crumbs, milk, salt and pepper. Crumble beef over mixture and mix well. Shape into 1-in. meatballs, about 24. , Place in a shallow 1-1/2-qt. microwave-safe dish. Cover and microwave on high until meat is no longer pink, 7-1/2 minutes; drain. , Combine the soup, sour cream, milk, parsley and, if desired, nutmeg; pour over meatballs. Cover and cook on high until heated through, 5-6 minutes. Serve with noodles and, if desired, top with parsley.

  • Preheat the oven to 180°C, fan 160°C, gas 4. Cook the onion, carrots and celery in half the oil for 15-20 minutes until soft.

    Turn up the heat and add the mince. Brown the meat for a few minutes, then stir in the tomato purée, thyme and flour. Cook for 1 minute, then pour in the stock and both the soy and Worcestershire sauces. Bring to the boil and simmer for 30 minutes.

    Meanwhile, put the swede and potatoes into a pan of water and bring to the boil. Cook for 20 minutes or until soft.

    Fry the leeks in the remaining oil until soft and slightly golden. Once the swede and potatoes are cooked, drain and mash with the milk, then stir in the leeks.

    Season the mince to taste and pour into a large, square ovenproof casserole dish. Top with the mash and cook in the oven for 30 minutes until golden on top and bubbling at the edges.
