SPICY PHILLY CHEESESTEAK SANDWICHES - DAN-O'S SEASONING

Spicy Philly Cheesesteak Sandwiches - Dan-O's Seasoning image

YOU DON'T KNOW TILL YOU DAN-O Description Another copycat recipe from one of my favorite spots in Louisville, KY. This spicy Philly cheesesteak has tons of steak, cheese, bacon, and Dan-O’s Seasoning! If you’ve never tried bacon on a Philly cheesesteak, well this is the next step for you. This recipe takes about 30 minutes and can be done inside on the stove or outside on the griddle. The restaurant that inspired this dish is Flanagan’s Ale House on Baxter Ave. Everything there is great, but I get their spicy Philly sandwich almost every time. There are a few differences in mine, though. They put mushrooms on theirs, which I don’t really do, so I added diced jalapenos. And I used a spicy Dan-O’s mayo instead of cayenne mayo, for obvious reasons. You’ll need to try theirs for the real deal, but mine definitely satisfied! I used a big stainless steel pan this time around because I didn’t have a big enough cast iron thing and didn’t want to break into the camping gear for my griddle. It worked just fine, though. I used some mini hoagies because the quality of the bread looked better than the big hoagies at my local grocery. They were awesome and I didn’t overstuff myself! You can also slice your own ribeye or use provolone cheese. Butchers will sometimes slice a ribeye for you if you’ll ask. I just wanted something quick and easy today and the shaved beef in the tub works fine. Serve spicy Philly cheesesteak sandwich with fries or chips. Enjoy! Ingredients 16 oz of thinly-sliced ribeye or shaved beef 1 small onion diced 2 large jalapenos diced 1 tbs butter 4 hoagie rolls 4 slices mozzarella cheese Mayo Cooking Oil Sriracha sauce 8 slices of bacon Prep Time 10 Mins Cook Time 20 Mins Serving Size 4 Instructions Dice up your onion and jalapeno. Set to the side. Start your bacon in the oven. Season with spicy Dan-O’s then cook on a baking sheet at 350 degrees for 20-30 minutes until desired crispiness. Melt butter onto your hot cooking surface and toast the bottom side of your hoagie until it’s brown and crisping on the sides. Set to the side. Add your onion and jalapeno to the cooking surface with some hot oil. Cook for 4-5 minutes until they reach your desired softness. Remove and set to the side. Add your ribeye to the cooking surface with some oil and a few hearty pours of spicy Dan-O’s Seasoning. Cook for a few minutes on each side until no longer pink and chop up with your spatula. Mix the onions and peppers in with the Philly meat and make sandwich-sized piles. Put your cheese overtop the piles to melt, turn the heat off, and cover. Add mayo to the bottom of your hoagie roll and sprinkle spicy Dan-O’s over it making your spicy Dan-O’s mayo. Add cayenne pepper for added heat. Add cooked bacon to the hoagies for your second layer. Add your piles of cheesy steak, pepper, and onion filling to your hoagies. Drizzle with sriracha sauce before closing or wrapping. Enjoy! Contributed by Chuck in Louisville, KY. Submit your recipe! PHILLY CHEESE STEAK RECIPE - FOOD.COM

Philly Cheese Steak Recipe - Food.com image

I went to college in Tucson, Arizona and loved this little spot named Greasy Tony's. My friends and I would go there after the bars closed for amazing spicy philly cheesesteaks. I moved back to Michigan, and haven't been able to find a replacement since. Here is my adaptation. These are great sandwiches to have when the weather starts to turn cool. I also make a horseradish sauce to put on top but they taste great without the sauce! These make heaping sandwiches. When my market is out of hoagie rolls, I have used hot dog buns, hamburger buns and onion rolls. If you like it spicy, add more pepperoncini. Also, red pepper can be used in lieu of green pepper.

Total Time 30 minutes

Prep Time 5 minutes

Cook Time 25 minutes

Yield 4 sandwiches, 4 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 13

3 tablespoons olive oil
1 onion, sliced
1 green pepper, sliced
1 lb mushroom, sliced
1/4 cup pepperoncini pepper, sliced (or pepperoncini)
1 lb deli roast beef, sliced
3 teaspoons fresh oregano, chopped (or 1 teaspoon of dried oregano)
kosher salt
pepper
4 -6 hoagie rolls
8 slices provolone cheese (Cheddar works well too)
1/2 cup sour cream
1/4 cup prepared fresh ground horseradish (comes in a jar, kept in refrigerator)

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 500 degrees Fahrenheit.
  • Heat 3 tablespoons of olive oil in large sauté pan, over medium high heat, add onion; saute 10 minutes until golden.
  • Add green or red pepper, mushrooms, and pepperoncini to pan; continue to saute another 5 minutes until browned.
  • Slice roast beef into 1-1/2 inch strips.
  • Turn heat to medium; add roast beef strips to the vegetables.
  • Add oregano and salt/pepper to taste; stir-fry all together 3 to 5 minutes.
  • Place mixture on 1/2 of opened hoagie rolls on a lined baking sheet.
  • Top each half with two slices of provolone cheese.
  • Cook in oven until roll is toasted and cheese is melted.
  • HORSERADISH SAUCE:.
  • Mix sour cream and horseradish sauce together in bowl.
  • After sandwiches are prepared, right before serving, drizzle sauce on top or slather on.

  • Using a sharp knife, slice the steak as thinly as possible and pile the slices into four portions. Heat a skillet over a high heat until almost smoking. Put one portion of the steak slices in the pan in a pile that's roughly the length of your rolls. Fry for 3 mins over a high heat until some of the steak is cooked through, with pink bits remaining. Pile a quarter of the onion mixture on top, as well as a quarter each of the cheese slices and the mozzarella. Continue to cook undisturbed over a medium heat for 5-10 mins until the meat is brown and crisp around the edge and the cheeses have melted. Split one of the rolls open and carefully scoop the meat and cheese mixture into it. Repeat with the remaining meat, onions, cheese and rolls.
