Sour cream and onion vibes without the sour cream? Sign me up! Throw this on potatoes, veggies, chickpeas, a hard boiled egg...or just anything that needs an extra kick of flavor.

Number Of Ingredients 6

2 tsp nutritional yeast
1 tbsp onion powder
2 tsp garlic powder
1/3 tsp salt (or to taste )
2 tsp dried chives (optional, can serve with fresh chives or scallions )
1 tsp minced dried onion (optional, I just had it in my pantry! )

Steps:

  • Combine all ingredients in a bowl. Taste to make sure the levels of salt are to your liking. Feel free to add pepper or anything else to make it perfect for you! Store in a closed jar at room temp, or refrigerate in a tightly wrapped bowl. Lasts up to 2 years if stored properly!

Number Of Ingredients 13

2 tablespoons olive oil
2 lb boneless skinless chicken breasts, cut into 1-inch pieces
2 tablespoons Italian seasoning
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon freshly ground pepper
2 tablespoons butter
1 small onion, thinly sliced
2 to 3 cloves garlic, finely chopped
1 cup sour cream
1/2 cup chicken broth
2 tablespoons cornstarch
3 medium green onions, sliced (3 tablespoons)
Hot cooked rice

Steps:

  • In 12-inch skillet, heat oil over medium-high heat. Sprinkle chicken pieces with Italian seasoning, salt and pepper; add to skillet. Cook 2 to 3 minutes, stirring frequently, until golden. Add butter, onion and garlic. Cook about 5 minutes, stirring occasionally, until onion is tender.
  • In small bowl, mix sour cream, broth and cornstarch until smooth. Pour over chicken mixture. Reduce heat to low. Cook about 5 minutes longer, stirring occasionally, until chicken is no longer pink in center and sauce is thickened. Stir in half of the green onions.
  • Serve chicken and sauce over rice. Sprinkle with remaining green onions.

  • 1) To make the spice blend, add the buttermilk powder, granulated onion, granulated garlic, onion flakes, parsley and sugar in a small food processor and pulse about 15 times to insure everything is well mixed, set aside. 2) Fill a large bowl with cold water and set aside. 3) Using a mandoline or a sharp knife, slice the potatoes really thin (they should be see through) and add them to the bowl of water. 4) Allow the slices of potatoes to soak for a few hours making sure to change the water every hour. 5) Add enough oil to a large heavy duty pot to come halfway up the sides of the pot and heat it to 375 degrees. 6) Working in batches, dry the potatoes really well on kitchen towels or paper towels (it?s important that each slice of potato is very, very dry). 7) Working in batches, fry the chips for a few minutes making sure to stir them around the whole time so they cook evenly. 8) Drain on a paper towel lined platter, sprinkle them with some salt and with the sour cream and onion seasoning and toss them well! 9) Repeat with the remaining chips and enjoy them fresh!

when i google "how to make powdered sour cream" i get a page to patent my idea. i think that's a bad sign. this is my logic, it may or may not work. if you try it let me know how it went! i would use pre-made powdered sour cream but it's about $35 plus shipping for one tin. i think not.
