Slow Cooker Ham Hock Recipe - Recipes.net image

Enjoy an aromatic pork knuckle with our Slow Cooker Ham Hock Recipe! Its tender meat and rich, smoky taste will surely be worth the long wait.

Provided by Andrea

Total Time 110 minutes

Prep Time 10 minutes

Cook Time 10 minutes

Yield 2

Number Of Ingredients 12

2 lb ham hocks
6 cups chicken stock
8 oz large dice celery
5½ oz or red onions, large dice yellow onions
4 oz large dice carrots
3 cloves minced garlic cloves
5 tbsp yellow mustard
5 tbsp honey
to taste salt and ground black pepper
3 oz per serving sweet potatoes
3 oz per serving coleslaw
1 tbsp chopped parsley

Steps:

  • Combine all ingredients in your slow cooker.
  • Cover pot and cook on low heat for 8 to 10 hours until desired tenderness is achieved. To know if it’s tender enough, check if the meat already starts falling off the bone.
  • Once cooked, drain the ham hock and allow it to cool down briefly.
  • Drain the liquid and discard the rest. Season the liquid to taste with salt and pepper.
  • Once the ham hock has briefly cooled down, debone and peel off its fatty skin. Portion the meat accordingly.
  • Serve with a side of coleslaw and sweet potatoes or along with the liquid and bread on the side. Enjoy!

CREAMY POTATO-AND-HAM HOCK SLOW-COOKER SOUP RECIPE ...

Creamy Potato-and-Ham Hock Slow-Cooker Soup Recipe ... image

This smoked ham hock soup is big on flavor and low on effort.

Provided by Karen Rankin

Total Time 4 hours 45 minutes

Yield Serves 8

Number Of Ingredients 12

4 ½ pounds russet potatoes, chopped (about 10 cups)
2 pounds smoked ham hocks (about 3 ham hocks)
2 cups chopped yellow onion (from 1 medium onion)
1 cup chopped celery (from 3 stalks)
2 tablespoons minced garlic cloves (about 4 garlic cloves)
2 tablespoons chopped fresh thyme
2 ½ teaspoons kosher salt
1 teaspoon black pepper
5 cups chicken broth
1 cup heavy cream
Chopped fresh chives
Hot sauce

Steps:

  • Place potatoes, ham hocks, onion, celery, garlic, thyme, salt, and pepper in a 7-quart slow cooker; add broth, and stir to combine. Cover and cook on HIGH until potatoes are tender, 4 hours. Remove ham hocks, and place on a plate to cool 15 minutes.
  • Puree soup in slow cooker with an immersion blender until it's creamy but whole pieces of potato are still visible. Add cream, and stir. Once ham hocks are cool enough to handle, remove all meat and chop; discard fat and bone. Add meat to soup, and stir to combine.
  • Ladle soup in bowls; top with chopped chives and a dash of hot sauce.

BLACK-EYED PEAS WITH HAM HOCK AND COLLARDS - NYT COOKI…
For the New Year’s good fortune, a plate of black-eyed peas or other beans is considered auspicious, auguring wealth and prosperity. In the American South, they are traditionally eaten on the first day of the year. Adding cooked greens (the color of money) is said to make them even luckier. Simmered with onion and a meaty ham bone (other options are salt pork, bacon, pig’s feet, hog jowl and ham hock), black-eyed peas are often seasoned quite simply, with just salt and pepper. They may also be made highly seasoned with hot pepper and spices. Freshly baked cornbread is the perfect accompaniment.

HAM HOCK SPLIT PEA SOUP RECIPE - FOOD.COM
Every Christmas we make a ham...and then we make pea soup...I love traditional pea soup but wanted it to have just a little more "oompf". so I added a little bit of spices and the results are pretty yummy.. This is not a "quick" recipe, but the flavors of the homemade ham stock are really worth the extra time. Hope you all like it.
