Steps:

• Preheat oven to 180°C (160°C fan) mark 4 and line two baking sheets with   baking parchment. In a large bowl, sift together the flour, cornflour and baking powder with 1tsp salt.

  In a separate bowl, stir together the melted butter and vanilla with both sugars  until smooth, before whisking in the egg and yolk. Stir the wet ingredients into  the dry and fold in the chocolates. The mixture should be soft but thick. Cover  and chill for 2hr, if you have time.

Steps:

• Preheat oven to 190°C (170°C fan) mark 5.  Line two large baking trays with baking parchment. Melt butter in a saucepan until it begins to brown. Remove from heat and allow to cool slightly in a mixing bowl. Stir in the sugar until combined. Beat in the eggs, vanilla and cocoa powder. Add the flour and baking powder. Stir well until the mixture almost forms a dough. Stir in chopped Smarties and chopped chocolate and stir until dough is formed.  Wrap dough in clingfilm and chill in fridge for 30-45minutes.  Divide dough into 12 equal balls and arrange 4 on each baking sheet, spaced as far apart as possible. Add Smarties to the top of each cookie, and press lightly to help them stick. Bake for 10-12 minutes or until cookies have spread out and puffed and feel dry to the touch. Leave for 10 minutes on the baking tray to set before removing to a wire rack to cool further. Serve warm or at room temperature.
