Beef and Broccoli is a quintessential American-Chinese dish. Almost everyone loves it, yet not many know how easy it is to make. Crisp broccoli florets paired with tender strips of beef in a decadent sauce - simple, delicious, healthy. Best of all, it comes together in less than 30 minutes so it’s perfect for even the busiest of weeknights.

1.5 pound Sirloin Steak
2 teaspoon Soy Sauce
2 teaspoon Corn Starch
3 tablespoon Cooking Oil
2 clove Garlic
6 cup Broccoli Florets
1 teaspoon Sesame Seeds
1/2 cup Water
1 tablespoon Soy Sauce
3 teaspoon Oyster Sauce
1/2 teaspoon Sesame Oil
1 teaspoon Brown Sugar
2 tablespoon Water
2 teaspoon Corn Starch

Steps:

  • Pour Soy Sauce (2 teaspoon) and Corn Starch (2 teaspoon) over the Sirloin Steak (1.5 pound), then stir till the beef is well coated. Allow to marinate at room temperature for about 15 minutes.
  • While waiting for the beef to marinade, prepare the sauce by combining Water (1/2 cup), Soy Sauce (1 tablespoon), Oyster Sauce (3 teaspoon), Sesame Oil (1/2 teaspoon) and Brown Sugar (1 teaspoon).
  • In a separate small bowl, mix the Corn Starch (2 teaspoon) with Water (2 tablespoon). Stir this mixture well to break up the cornstarch clumps.
  • Heat up Cooking Oil (2 tablespoon) in a wok over medium-high heat. When the wok starts to smoke just slightly, add the beef to the wok in a single layer. Leave the beef untouched for about 15 seconds to allow it to sear before flipping it with your wok spatula. Stir-fry the beef just until it is no longer pink, then remove the beef from the wok.
  • Add Cooking Oil (1 tablespoon) to the wok, then add the Garlic (2 clove). Stir-fry for just a few seconds, then add the Broccoli Florets (6 cup). Stir-fry for about a minute.
  • Stir in the sauce, then continue to stir-fry the broccoli in the sauce for another minute or until they reach your desired doneness, the longer you leave the broccoli to simmer in the sauce, the softer they become. Push the broccoli to the sides of the wok, give your cornstarch mixture a quick stir in the bowl, then pour it into the sauce.
  • As soon as the sauce thickens, return the beef to the wok and give it a final stir before transferring the dish to a serving bowl.
  • Garnish with Sesame Seeds (1 teaspoon), if using, then enjoy over steamed rice or on its own!

Juice of 1/2 lime

packed brown sugar, divided

2 tbsp.

cornstarch, divided

Kosher salt

Freshly ground black pepper

1 lb.

sirloin steak, sliced thinly against grain

2 tbsp.

vegetable oil

cloves garlic, minced

1/3 c.

low-sodium beef (or chicken) broth

2 tsp.

Sriracha (optional) 

1

head broccoli, cut into florets

Sesame seeds, for garnish 

Thinly sliced green onions, for garnish 

Steps:

  • In a medium bowl, whisk 1/3 cup soy sauce, lime juice, 1 tablespoon brown sugar, and 1 tablespoon cornstarch until combined. Add steak, season with salt and pepper, and toss until steak is coated. Marinate 20 minutes.  In a large skillet over medium-high heat, heat oil. Add steak in a single layer, working in batches if needed, and cook until seared, about 2 minutes per side. Remove steak and set aside.  Stir in garlic and cook until fragrant, about 1 minute. Stir in remaining 1 tablespoon cornstarch until garlic is coated, then stir in broth, remaining 2 tablespoons brown sugar, remaining 1/3 cup soy sauce, and Sriracha. Bring mixture to a simmer. Add broccoli and simmer until tender, about 5 minutes. Season sauce with salt and pepper (if necessary), then return steak to skillet.  Garnish with sesame seeds and green onions before serving.
