Cuban-Inspired Sandwich Dip | Allrecipes image

Miami tries to claim the Cuban sandwich as its own, but Tampa had it long before Miami. The 2 sandwiches are similar, but Tampa's is the authentic Cuban which has salami. You'll find all the flavors of this popular sandwich in this dip.

1 (8 ounce) package cream cheese, softened
1 (8 ounce) package shredded Swiss cheese
½ cup mayonnaise
3 tablespoons yellow mustard
1 (8 ounce) package ham, diced
6 ounces pork, diced
? cup diced salami
¼ cup diced dill pickles
3 tablespoons shredded Swiss cheese
2 (8 ounce) loaves Cuban bread

Steps:

  • Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
  • Add cream cheese and Swiss cheese to a large bowl. Blend well using an electric mixer. Add mayonnaise and mustard and mix until smooth. Stir in ham, pork, salami, and diced dill pickles until well combined. Spoon mixture into an oven-safe dish. Sprinkle remaining 3 tablespoons Swiss cheese over the top.
  • Bake in the preheated oven until heated through, 18 to 20 minutes.
  • Preheat the oven's broiler. Broil the dip until the top is nicely browned and bubbly, 1 to 2 minutes. Watch closely, so it doesn't burn.
  • Slice the bread in 1/2-inch-thick slices to use as dippers. Serve with the hot dip.

Serve these French-style sandwiches filled with roast beef, onion and cheese ready in 25 minutes - perfect for a dinner.

1 medium sweet onion, thinly sliced
Cooking spray
2 teaspoons salt-free onion-herb blend
1/2 cup plus 2 tablespoons water
1 cup reduced-sodium beef broth
8 oz thinly sliced cooked reduced-sodium roast beef (from deli)
4 hoagie buns (2.5 oz each), split
4 slices (3/4 oz each) reduced-fat Swiss cheese, cut in half

Steps:

  • Heat oven to 500°F. Heat 12-inch skillet over high heat. Spray onion with cooking spray; add to skillet. Stir in 1/2 teaspoon of the herb blend. Cook 11 to 12 minutes, stirring frequently and adding water 2 tablespoons at a time, until onion is golden brown.
  • Meanwhile, in 2-quart saucepan, heat broth and remaining 1 1/2 teaspoons herb blend over medium heat until hot. Remove from heat; add beef, pushing beef down into liquid until covered. Let stand 5 minutes.
  • Place buns, cut sides up, on ungreased cookie sheet. Bake 4 minutes or until lightly toasted.
  • Remove beef from broth; reserve broth. On bun bottoms, place beef, onion and cheese; cover with bun tops. Serve with warm broth for dipping.

Rub the seasoning mixture all over the surface of the beef. Place the beef on a roasting rack in a roasting pan and roast it to medium-rare, about 20 to 25 minutes, until it registers 125° degrees on a meat thermometer. (If you want it less pink, go to 135°.) Remove the meat to a cutting board and cover it with foil. Place the roasting pan on the stovetop burner over medium-high heat. Add the onions and garlic and cook, stirring, for 5 minutes, until they are soft and golden. Sprinkle in the soup mix, then pour in the consomme, broth, sherry, Worcestershire, soy sauce, and water. Bring it to a boil, then reduce the heat to low. Simmer for 45 minutes, stirring occasionally, to develop the flavors. Add more water if it starts to evaporate too much. Pour the liquid through a fine mesh strainer and reserve both the liquid and the onions. Slice the beef very thin. Pile the beef and caramelized onions on the toasted rolls, then serve with a side of jus.
