Easy Popover Recipe | Crate & Barrel image

Popovers are a delicate and precise recipe. It’s not that they are difficult, but they do come with a specific set of rules that must be followed. Ingredients must be at room temperature, the pan needs to be preheated and it is imperative that you don’t open the oven door during cooking. All of these things need to be done in order to allow the popovers to rise properly. But once you get these factors down and master this easy popover recipe, you will be hooked, as there is nothing quite like a warm, fresh popover straight out of the oven.

Number Of Ingredients 5

3 eggs, room temperature
1 cup whole milk, room temperature
2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted and cooled to room temperature
1 cup all-purpose flour
½ teaspoon Kosher salt

Steps:

  • Set oven rack in bottom third of oven and preheat the oven to 425°F. Coat a popover pan with nonstick cooking spray and set aside.
  • In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk and butter. In a small bowl, whisk together the flour and salt then add to the egg mixture. Whisk until smooth and allow the batter to rest for 10 minutes.
  • When you are ready to bake, place the popover pan in the oven to preheat for 2 minutes. Remove the popover pan from the oven and, working quickly, fill the cups about two-thirds full. Immediately return the pan to the oven and close the door tightly. Do not open the oven door during baking. Bake for 25 minutes and serve at once.
