Number Of Ingredients 14

2 cups onions, chopped and divided
3 tablespoons vegetable oil, divided
1 garlic clove, minced
2 lbs ground beef
2 large eggs, lightly beaten
1/4 cup fine dry breadcrumb
2 teaspoons prepared mustard
2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce
1 teaspoon salt, divided
1 teaspoon pepper, divided
1 (8 ounce) package sliced fresh mushrooms
3 tablespoons all-purpose flour
1/2 cup dry red wine
1 1/2 cups low sodium beef broth

Steps:

  • Saute half of chopped onion in 1 Tabsp hot oil in medium skillet over medium heat until tender. Add garlic, and saute 30 seconds. Remove from heat and let cool.
  • Combine cooked onion mixture, beef, and next 4 ingredients, 1/4 teasp salt, and 1/2 teasp pepper. Shape into 6 patties.
  • Cook patties in remaining 2 Tabsp. hot oil over medium-high heat 3 minutes on each side or until browned. (Do not cook until done). Remove patties and set aside.
  • Add remaining onion to drippings in skillet, and saute over medium-high heat until tender; add mushrooms and saute 3 minutes. Whisk in flour, and cook, stirring constantly, 1 minute, whisk in wine, broth, and remaining 3/4 teasp salt and 1/2 teasp of pepper. Bring to a boil, reduce heat to low and simmer stirring occasionally, 5 minutes.
  • Place patties in lightly greased baking dish, top evenly with gravy.
  • Bake, covered, at 350 for 25 minutes or until done.
  • In the summer I make this recipe in my electric fry pan.

This slow cooker Salisbury steaks recipe is the comfort food you have been craving. Easy, delicious, and so satisfying!

1 cup baby portabello mushrooms, sliced
1 onion, thinly sliced
1 1/3 pounds lean ground beef
1 tablespoon steak seasoning
3 tablespoons worcestershire sauce, divided
1 teaspoon dried onion flakes
1 teaspoon dried parsley
1/2 cup breadcrumbs, plain or italian
1 egg
3 tablespoons cornstarch, divided
2 cups beef broth
1/8 teaspoon black pepper

Steps:

  • Spray a large 6-quart oval slow cooker with cooking spray. Then add the sliced mushrooms and onions to the bottom. Next, prepare the ground beef mixture. Combine the ground beef, steak seasoning, 1 tablespoon of Worcestershire sauce, dried onion flakes, parsley, breadcrumbs and egg together. Mix well. Divide the mixture into 4-6 patties. Form each patty into an oval shape, pressing thin, and then place in the slow cooker (make sure you spread evenly in the slow cooker and do not stack). Mix together the 2 cups of beef broth, 2-tablespoons Worchester sauce, 2 tablespoons cornstarch, and black pepper. Whisk until smooth then pour on top of beef patties. Place the lid on the slow cooker and cook for 4 hours on high. Once the Salisbury steak is done cooking, remove the steaks from the slow cooker. In a small bowl add one-tablespoon cornstarch with 2 tablespoons water. Stir the cornstarch water mixture into the gravy in the slow cooker. Mix until thickened. Serve each Salisbury steak with mushroom and onion gravy on top of egg noodles or mashed potatoes. Enjoy.
