14 tablespoons white sugar
12 tablespoons unsalted butter, softened
2 eggs
½ teaspoon rose water
1?½ tablespoons dried rose petals
2?½ cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
1 pinch salt

Steps:

  • Combine sugar and butter in a large bowl. Beat with an electric mixer until light and fluffy, about 5 minutes. Beat in eggs and rose water. Stir in rose petals.
  • Combine flour, baking powder, and salt in a separate bowl. Mix into the dough. Cover and chill dough for at least 1 hour, or overnight.
  • Preheat the oven to 400 degrees F (200 degrees C). Line baking sheet with parchment paper.
  • Roll out dough on a lightly floured surface to about 1/3-inch thickness. Cut into shapes with a shaped cutter, or simply cut into rectangles or squares. Place cookies 1 inch apart on the prepared baking sheet.
  • Bake in the preheated oven until light and crisp, 6 to 8 minutes. Cool completely before serving.

Rose Cookies - Achu Murukku | Simple Indian Recipes image

Rose Cookies or Achu Murukku is a famous sweet snack made during festivals in southern states of India. Enjoy the tasty crunchy snack. Here is the traditional recipe for making rose cookies.

Number Of Ingredients 7

Rice powder - 1 cup
Maida or All Purpose Flour- 1/4 cup
Sugar - 1/2 cup
Coconut Milk - 1/2 cup (+ 1 or 2 tbsp if needed)
Egg - 1
Salt - a pinch
Oil - for deep frying

Steps:

  • I usually take all the above ingredients in the biggest jar or the mixie or a blender and blend for few minutes to get a smooth thick batter. You can also mix with just a ladle or hand mixer.
  • Remove it into a bowl. Mix in 1 tsp of sesame seeds - black or white, with the batter.
  • Heat oil in a wide kadai. Leave the murukku mould inside the oil.
  • When the mould has become hot, dip it carefully inside the batter such that only 80% of the mould is covered with batter.
  • Gently hold the mould inside the hot oil.
  • After few seconds, shake the mould handle gently to release the achu murukku into the oil.
  • Let it fry in medium heat till the bubbling of the oil subsides.
  • Turn the murukkus half way so that both sides have an even golden brown color.
