This is a nutritious and delicious breakfast cereal. Use any type of dried fruit you desire! You can also use almonds in place of walnuts if you like. Wonderful when served in bowls with milk and fresh berries or sliced fresh fruit.

- In a large mixing bowl combine oats, wheat germ, wheat bran, oat bran, dried fruit, nuts, sugar, and seeds. Mix well. Store muesli in an airtight container. It keeps for 2 months at room temperature.

Serve this Scandinavian cereal with low-fat yogurt or nonfat milk to start your day off with whole grains and some protein and calcium-rich dairy. You can substitute any combination of chopped dried or fresh fruit for the raisins--apricots, apples, figs, cherries or cranberries would all be delicious. Try walnuts or hazelnuts instead of the almonds if you like. Ground flaxseeds stirred in at the end provide a boost of heart-healthy omega-3s.

- Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Coat a baking sheet with cooking spray. Spread oats and rye (or wheat) flakes on the baking sheet. Bake for 10 minutes. Stir in almonds and coconut; bake until the oats are fragrant, about 8 minutes. Turn off the oven. Stir raisins into the muesli.

Preheat oven to 180°C (160°C fan) mark 4.
Grease a 21x25.5cm (81/2x10in) tin.
Put the butter, sugar and golden syrup into a pan.
Heat gently, stirring, until the butter has melted.
Remove from the heat and stir in the muesli and porridge oats.
Turn mixture into the prepared tin and smooth the surface.
Bake for 30min until golden brown.
Cool in the tin for 10min.
Mark into 18 bars with a sharp knife, loosening around the edges as well.
