Ingredients

1 cup packed brown sugar
½ cup white sugar
1 cup shortening
2 eggs
1 ½ teaspoons vanilla extract
2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon salt
1 ½ cups candy-coated milk chocolate pieces (such as M&M's®)

Steps:

In a large bowl, mix sugar, eggs, shortening, and vanilla thoroughly. Add flour, salt, and baking soda to creamed mixture. Blend well. Add 3/4 cup candies.
Drop dough by teaspoonful onto baking sheet. Slightly push a few candies on top of each dough ball with remaining candies.
Bake at 350 degrees F (175 degrees C) for 9 to 11 minutes.

Ingredients

1 cup unsalted butter- room temperature
1/2 cup powdered sugar
1/2 tablespoon vanilla extract
2 cups all-purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon salt
3/4 cup maraschino cherries-chopped (spread cherries on the paper towel to drain well or you can use candied maraschino cherries)
2/3 cup chocolate chips

Steps:

Beat butter with a mixer with powdered sugar and vanilla until light and fluffy cream.
Combine the flour with salt, sift into the butter mixture and knead the dough.
Add chopped cherries and chocolate chips, mix.
Put the dough on a cling film, form a log, press with your hands, and put in the refrigerator for an hour.
Cut the dough into round cookies, put on a baking sheet and bake in the oven at 325 F for about 15 minutes.
Cool the cookies completely, then remove them from the baking sheet and serve.
