Layer upon layer of filo dough filled with finely ground nuts infused with a touch of spice, baked until golden and then drenched in a honey syrup.

1 Puff Pastry
1/2 cup Walnut
1/2 cup Pistachios
2 tablespoon Butter
2 tablespoon Honey
1/2 tablespoon Ground Cinnamon
1 pinch Salt
1/3 cup Honey
3 tablespoon Water

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (180 degrees C).
  • Grind Walnut (1/2 cup) and Pistachios (1/2 cup) in a food processor until desired texture is achieved. Add in Butter (2 tablespoon) , Ground Cinnamon (1/2 tablespoon), Honey (2 tablespoon) & Salt (1 pinch), pulse to combine with nuts.
  • On a floured surface, roll out Puff Pastry (1) into a slightly larger rectangle & cut out 12 squares.
  • Taking one square of puff pastry at a time, slightly stretch it with your hands into a square & place into the well of a muffin pan. Repeat with all squares.
  • Evenly add nut filling to each well of the muffin pan & then bake baklava in the oven for 15-20 minutes, until nicely golden, but without over browning the nut filling.
  • While baklava bakes, add Water (3 tablespoon) to Honey (1/3 cup) & stir until thoroughly combined.
  • When baklava is done baking, immediately remove the baklava pieces from the muffin pan & onto a serving platter.
  • Drizzle 1 tablespoon of honey syrup over each piece of baklava while still hot & then serve. Enjoy!

This Greek puff pastry baklava delivers as a nutty and sweet dessert, featuring walnuts and honey.

Juice of 1 navel orange
1/2 cup (120 milliliters) honey
2 sheets store-bought puff pastry, thawed
2 tablespoons (30 milliliters) melted butter
1 cup (240 milliliters) finely diced walnuts, divided
1 teaspoon (5 milliliters) cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon (1 milliliter) salt
Zest of 1/2 navel orange
1 egg
Splash of milk

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350F (175C).
  • Combine honey and orange juice and heat in the microwave for two minutes.
  • Unroll sheets of puff pastry. Lay one sheet on a lightly floured surface and brush with melted butter. Combine diced walnuts, cinnamon, salt, and orange zest in a bowl, then spread evenly over buttered sheet of pastry. Drizzle walnut mixture with half of the honey mixture, then lay the second sheet of puff pastry over top.
  • Slice pastry into squares and transfer to a parchment paper-lined baking sheet. Crack egg into a small bowl, pour in a splash of milk, and whisk to create an egg wash. Brush pastry with egg wash. Bake for 10-12 minutes or until puffed and browned.
  • Drizzle over the remaining honey mixture and serve.
