Confectioners' Sugar Glaze Recipe: How to Make It image

This versatile glaze is shared by our Test Kitchen. You can make the basic powdered sugar glaze and tint it with food coloring if desired. For chocolate lovers, skip the food coloring and stir in some baking cocoa.

2 cups confectioners' sugar
2 tablespoons plus 1 teaspoon water
1/2 teaspoon clear vanilla extract
Food coloring, optional

Steps:

  • In a bowl, combine confectioners' sugar, water and vanilla; stir until combined and smooth (mixture will be thick). If desired, tint with food coloring. With a butter knife or small metal spatula, lightly spread glaze on cooled cookies. Let dry for 1 hour.

2 1/2 cups powdered sugar
3 tablespoons water
1 tablespoon Land O Lakes® Butter softened
1 tablespoon light corn syrup
1/2 teaspoon almond extract or vanilla, if desired
Food color, if desired

Steps:

  • Combine powdered sugar, water, butter, corn syrup and vanilla in bowl; mix until powdered sugar is moistened. Beat at medium speed until smooth, adding additional water, if necessary, to reach desired spreading consistency. Tint with food color, if desired.
  • Glaze cooled cookies. Let stand 6 hours or overnight until firm.
