This is so good! Easy to make your own sausage mixture with just some ground meat, shredded potatoes and spices.

1/2 lb ground beef
1/2 lb ground pork
1/2 cup potato, shredded
1/2 cup onion, diced
3/4 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon pepper
1/8 teaspoon allspice
1/8 teaspoon dried thyme

Steps:

  • Mix all ingredients together by hand.
  • Shape into 8 patties.
  • Fry in a lightly oiled skillet on medium-low heat until well browned. About 10 minutes per side. Cook on medium low to ensure slow and thorough cooking all the way to the inside.
  • Check the inside of one patty to ensure they are no longer pink inside.
  • Serve hot.

5 large potatoes, cut in bite sized chunks
1 lb kielbasa, sliced
1 cup chopped onion
1 cup chopped green pepper
2 tablespoons vegetable oil
1 teaspoon oregano
1 teaspoon basil
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon pepper
1 1/2 cups water
1 1/2 cups shredded American cheese

Steps:

  • In dutch oven, brown potatoes, kielbasa, onion and peppers in oil.
  • Add seasonings and water.
  • Bring to a boil.
  • Cover tightly and cook for 20 minutes on low, stirring occasionally.
  • Uncover and put cheese on top.
  • Simmer until cheese is melted.
