Number Of Ingredients 6

3/4 cup water
2/3 cup white wine or cider vinegar
2 teaspoons sugar
1 teaspoon kosher salt
1 medium red onion, thinly sliced
Optional: fresh rosemary, thyme or dill sprigs, whole black peppercorns, small dried chili or garlic clove

Steps:

  • In a bowl, whisk together the first four ingredients until sugar and salt dissolve. Place onions and optional ingredients, if desired, into large glass jar; pour vinegar mixture over onions. Seal and let stand at least 2 hours at room temperature. Refrigerate for up to 2 weeks.

Number Of Ingredients 17

1 lb of dry Navy Beans, soak overnight
1 lb of Ground Beef, 80/20, cooked and drained
½ lb of Bacon, diced, lightly cooked
1 cup Onion, diced
1 cup Bell Peppers, diced
2 cup Beef Broth
1 ½ cups Brown Sugar
1 15oz can Tomato Sauce
½ cup Grandmas Molasses
2 Tablespoon Worcestershire Sauce
1 Tablespoon Texas Pete Hot Sauce
1 teaspoon Garlic Powder
1 teaspoon Liquid Smoke
¼ cup Yellow Mustard
¼ cup Ketchup
½ teaspoon Salt
½ teaspoon Black Pepper

Steps:

  • Sort through dry beans to remove any stones or hard beans.
  • Place beans in a large pot, cover with water, soak overnight.
  • Drain beans, place in a large baking pan.
  • Peel the outer skin from an onion, dice it up.
  • Brown ground beef in a skillet placed over medium heat. Drain off fat.
  • Add cooked beef to pan with beans.
  • Add onions.
  • Add Bell Peppers.
  • Chop bacon into small pieces. Place bacon in skillet, brown lightly.
  • Add cooked bacon and bacon grease to pan with beans.
  • Add Tomato Sauce.
  • Add brown sugar.
  • Add Molasses.
  • Add Yellow Mustard.
  • Add Garlic Powder.
  • Add Liquid Smoke.
  • Add Texas Pete Hot Sauce
  • Add Worcestershire Sauce
  • Add beef broth.
  • Gently stir all ingredients together until mixed well.
  • Cover pan tightly with aluminum foil.
  • Place in pre-heated 300 degree oven, bake covered for 3 hours.
  • Add Ketchup.
  • Add Salt if needed.
  • Add Black Pepper, stir well.
  • Return beans, uncovered, back to oven and bake about one hour or until beans are tender. Remember, mine took 7 hours total.
  • Serve warm and enjoy!

COPYCAT HELLMAN'S BEST FOODS MAYONNAISE RECIPE
One day in France in 1756, when Duke de Richelieu's chef couldn't find any cream for a sauce made with eggs and cream, he substituted oil. The thick emulsion that formed after a vigorous beating became one of the basic sauces for our modern cuisine. A version of this simple culinary breakthrough was an important ingredient for Richard Hellmann's salads in the deli he opened in New York City in 1905. When Richard started selling his mayonnaise by the jar at the deli, the bottles flew out the door. Before long Hellmann's creamy mayonnaise dominated in the eastern United States, while another company, Best Foods, was having incredible sales success with mayonnaise west of the Rockies. In this clone recipe you'll be creating an emulsion by whisking a stream of oil into a beaten egg yolk. The solution will begin to magically thicken and change color, and before you know it you'll be looking at a bowl of beautiful, off-white, fresh mayonnaise. I've found the best way to add the oil to the egg yolk a little bit at a time while whisking is to pour the oil into a plastic squirt bottle like the kind used for ketchup or mustard. This will allow you to whisk continuously with one hand while squirting oil with the other. You can also use a measuring cup with a spout and pour the oil in a thin stream.
