Broccoli Ham Ring Recipe: How to Make It image

Since this sandwich ring uses convenient crescent rolls, it takes little fuss to prepare. I like to fix it for a Sunday evening meal when our son comes to visit. It makes a great appetizer for a party, too. —Janet Dishong, Manheim, Pennsylvania

Number Of Ingredients 8

2 tubes (8 ounces each) refrigerated crescent roll dough
1-1/2 cups shredded Swiss cheese
1/4 pound boneless fully cooked ham, cubed
2-1/4 cups chopped fresh broccoli
1 small onion, chopped
1/4 cup minced fresh parsley
2 tablespoons Dijon mustard
1 teaspoon lemon juice

Steps:

  • Unroll crescent roll dough and place triangles on a 12-in. pizza pan, forming a ring with pointed ends facing outer edge of pan and wide ends overlapping. Lightly press wide ends together. , In a large bowl, combine the remaining ingredients; spoon over wide ends of rolls. Fold points over filling and tuck under wide ends (filling will be visible). , Bake at 375° for 20-25 minutes or until golden brown.

1 medium potato, cut into 1/2-inch cubes
1 medium onion, cut into wedges
2 medium carrots, peeled and cut into 1/4-inch slices
1/2 cup water
1 broiler-fryer chicken (3-4 pounds)
1 tbsp olive oil
1 garlic clove, pressed
1/2 tsp dried rosemary leaves
1/2 tsp dried thyme leaves
salt and ground black pepper to taste

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 400ºF. Arrange potato, onion and carrots in a single layer in bottom of Deep Covered Baker. Pour water over vegetables. Rinse chicken with cold water; pat dry with paper towels. Place chicken, breast side up, on top of vegetables. Combine oil and garlic; brush over chicken. Sprinkle evenly with rosemary, thyme, salt and black pepper. Cover with lid of baker, bake 45 minutes; remove lid. Continue to bake an additional 15-30 minutes or until Pocket Thermometer registers 180°F in meaty part of thigh and juices run clear. Remove from oven. Transfer chicken and vegetables to serving platter. Let stand 10 minutes before carving.

Brush the chicken with the remaining oil; season with paprika and the remaining salt.Cut the head of garlic and the lemon in half horizontally; place in the cavity of the chicken with the thyme. Tie the legs together with kitchen twine.Carefully remove the Dutch oven from the oven. Add the potatoes to the bottom and place the chicken on top. Replace the lid.Bake, covered, for 45 minutes. Remove the lid and bake until the skin is browned, and the chicken reaches 165°F (74°C), about 15–20 minutes.
