An authentic Pakistani recipe for a grind-at-home garam masala spice blend

Number Of Ingredients 6

5 green cardamoms
2 black cardamoms
1 four-inch stick of cinnamon
7-10 cloves
7-10 black peppercorn (reduce if you don’t like too much heat)
2-3 bay leaves

Steps:

  • Break down the cinnamon and add with all the spices into a spice grinder and blend until fine.
  • Store in a airtight glass jar, store in a cool dry place away from other conflicting aromas. Consume with 4-6 weeks, for freshness sake

Garam Masala Powder Recipe in English is an easy and traditional cooking recipe to prepare at home. It provides you an awesome taste of Pakistani Recipes.

Number Of Ingredients 1

8 table spoons (tbl sp) cumin seeds (sabat/safaid zeera) 4 tbl sp whole black peppers (sabat kali mirch) 1 tbl sp cinnamon (daar chini) 1tbl sp cloves (laung) 1/2 tbl sp black cardamom (sabat kali/baRi ilaichi) for garam masala correct ratio of these spices is very important.

Steps:

  • Grind every thing in a very fine powder, if grinder is not strong then break the cinnamon and cardamom in small fragments and then grind. Leave it in a flat dish for 1/2 hr so heat generated while grinding is released, if you will put it in an air tight jar immediately it will spoil. Once cooled down put in air tight jar, it will stay good for 3-4 month.

NB: Black cumin seeds are also called Royal Cumin or Shah Zeera. This spice mix makes a great gift - especially if you tie a recipe card around the neck of the jar with a whole piece of cinnamon!
