This syrup can be poured over French toast or pancakes as an alternative to maple syrup.

Yield Makes 1 1/2 cups

Number Of Ingredients 5

1 cup sugar
1/2 cup water
3/4 cup freshly squeezed orange juice
1 tablespoon cornstarch
2 tablespoons unsalted butter

Steps:

  • Combine the sugar and 1/2 cup water in a small saucepan. Bring to a boil; stir until sugar has dissolved. Combine juice and cornstarch in a bowl; pour into sugar syrup. Simmer gently until thick, 6 to 8 minutes. Add butter; stir until it melts. Serve warm.

Steps:

  • Remove rind from orange with a vegetable peeler, being careful not to get the bitter white pith. Set orange rind aside. Squeeze orange to get 1/2 cup juice.
  • Combine orange rind, juice, and sugar in a small saucepan. Cook over low heat, stirring until sugar dissolves. Bring mixture to a boil over medium-high heat, and boil 2 minutes.

ORANGE SYRUP | JUST A PINCH RECIPES
This is a special syrup that my grandmother Mabel Kennedy Sullivan use to make... it is a nice alternative to the usual maple syrup! I remember my grandmother warning us kids to let the syrup cool a bit before we tried it... "You don't want a sugar burn! Sugar burns are the worst!!!"
