Steps:
- Mix the flour together with the baking powder, baking soda and salt.
- Layer the ingredients in the glass jar (pressing each layer firmly in place before adding on the next layer).
- This is optional; push a small cinnamon stick into the side of the mixture (make certain that it is showing through the glass).
- Include a card with the following instructions**.
- Set oven to 350 degrees.
- Grease cookie sheet/s.
- Mix 1/2 cup melted butter or margarine with 1 egg and 2 teaspoons vanilla.
- Stir in the entire contents of the jar; mix until combined (you may need your hands to finish the mixing).
- Shape in small balls.
- Place 2-inches apart on cookie sheets.
- Bake for 11-13 minutes.

Steps:
- Combine the flour with the baking soda and salt. Place the funnel over the jar, and add the flour mixture to the bottom of the jar. Pack the flour in tightly. If some flour clings to the side of the jar, wipe with a dry paper towel after flattening.
- Add the instant quick-cooking oats to the jar, and pack in as tightly as you can.
- Add the sugar to the jar. It's ok if it sifts a bit into the oat layer.
- Add the brown sugar to the jar, and pack it firmly. The brown sugar plays an important role of keeping the flour and sugar layer in place, while forming a firm structure for the chocolate chips to rest on.
- Add the chocolate chips. They will sit loosely on top of the jar.
- Finally, add the chopped walnuts to the jar and fill to the top.
- Wipe the rim of the jar with a dry towel, and screw on the lid. Decorate as desired, print out and attach the recipe to the jar.
