A nice deep-fried cookie that tastes delicious! This is why you only eat them once a year! Sprinkle with icing sugar and serve on New Year's!

1 teaspoon white sugar
½ cup lukewarm water
1 (.25 ounce) package active dry yeast
2 cups raisins
3 eggs
1 cup lukewarm milk
½ teaspoon salt
3 cups all-purpose flour, or as needed
1 quart vegetable oil for frying
2 tablespoons confectioners' sugar for dusting, or as needed

Steps:

  • Dissolve sugar in lukewarm water in a large bowl and sprinkle yeast over the top. Let yeast activate until it forms a creamy layer on top of the water, about 10 minutes.
  • Rinse raisins and pat dry with paper towels. Stir raisins into yeast mixture; beat eggs, lukewarm milk, and salt into yeast mixture. Beat flour into liquid ingredients until dough is smooth. If dough is too sticky, beat in 1/4 cup more flour. Cover dough and set aside in a warm place to rise until doubled, about 1 hour.
  • Heat vegetable oil to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C) in a large saucepan or deep fat fryer.
  • Scoop up dough by tablespoon and drop, a few at a time, into the hot oil. Fry until lightly browned; drain on wire racks set over paper towels. Dust with confectioners' sugar.

250 grams Pastry flour
2 egg yolks
125 grams ground almonds
3 tablespoons Mango syrup
1 tablespoon lemon juice
50 grams fine sugar
1 tablespoon Nut oil
120 grams raisins
2 tablespoons sherry
50 grams grated Nut
30 grams grated Chocolate
2 tablespoons honey

Steps:

  • For the cookie dough, knead flour, egg yolks, almonds, mango syrup, lemon juice, sugar and oil to a smooth dough. Wrap dough in plastic wrap and refrigerate for about 1 hour. On a floured surface, thinly roll out dough between sheets of parchment paper.
  • Lucky bags: 
  • For the lucky bags cookies, Oil bag molds made ??of metal. Cut rolled dough into circles, cut circles into quarters and wrap around the bag. Place cookies on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Cut decorative shapes from dough scraps and attach to cookies with water. Bake cookies at 200°C (approximately 400°F) for about 12 minutes. Reshape cookies as necessary and let cool. Cut tissue paper circles with frayed edges, use to wrap small gifts and place in cookie bags.
  • Fortunately spirals:
  • For the spiral fortune cookies, brush canneloni noodles with oil. Wrap long, thin strips of dough into spirals around the noodles. After baking, remove the noodles, replace with fortune notes and decorate with tissue paper.
  • For the filling, soak raisins in sherry and mix in nuts, chocolate and honey.
  • Thinly roll out dough and cut into squares. Place about 1 teaspoon filling in center of each square, fold up dough in an envelope shape to cover filling and press to seal. Bake filled cookies for 15 minutes and decorate with paper cutouts.
  • Lucky pig:
  • For the lucky pig cookies, roll out dough not too thinly and cut into pig shapes with cookie cutters. Bake pig cookies until golden yellow, about 12 minutes. Tie rolled fortunes onto pig cookies with with streamers.
