SLOW-COOKER GROUND BEEF STROGANOFF - TASTE OF HOME

- In a large skillet, cook beef, salt and pepper over medium heat until no longer pink, breaking into crumbles, 6-8 minutes; drain. Transfer meat to a 3- or 4-qt. slow cooker., In same skillet, heat butter over medium-high heat. Add mushrooms and onions; cook and stir until onions are tender and mushrooms have released their liquid and begin to brown, 6-8 minutes. Add garlic; cook 1 minute longer. Transfer to slow cooker., In a small bowl, whisk together consomme, flour and tomato paste. Pour over meat mixture; stir to combine. Cook, covered, on low until thickened, 4-6 hours. Stir in sour cream. Cook, covered, until heated through, 15-30 minutes longer. Serve with noodles.

- With a sharp knife, cut six 1-in.-long slits in meat; insert a garlic clove half into each slit. Combine the brown sugar, salt and pepper; rub over roast., In an ovenproof Dutch oven over medium heat, brown roast in oil on all sides. Add the onion, beef consomme, Worcestershire sauce, mustard, bay leaf and browning sauce if desired., Cover and bake at 350° for 1-3/4 to 2-1/4 hours or until meat is tender. Remove roast to a serving platter; keep warm., Discard bay leaf. Add the mushrooms, beer and thyme to the pan. Bring to a boil over medium-high heat. Cook until liquid is reduced by half. Combine cornstarch and water until smooth; gradually stir into pan. Bring to a boil; cook and stir for 2 minutes or until thickened. Serve with roast.

- Preheat oven to 400°. In a large skillet, brown steaks in 2 tablespoons butter for 2-3 minutes on each side. Remove and keep warm. , On a lightly floured surface, roll each puff pastry sheet into a 14x9-1/2-in. rectangle. Cut each into two 7-in. squares (discard scraps). Place a steak in the center of each square. Lightly brush pastry edges with water. Bring opposite corners of pastry over steak; pinch seams to seal tightly. Cut four small slits in top of pastry. , Place in a greased 15x10x1-in. baking pan. Brush with egg. Bake at 400° for 25-30 minutes or until pastry is golden brown and meat reaches desired doneness (for medium-rare, a thermometer should read 135°; medium, 140°; medium-well, 145°). , Meanwhile, in the same skillet, saute mushrooms and shallots in remaining butter for 3-5 minutes or until tender. Combine flour and consomme until smooth; stir into mushroom mixture. Bring to a boil; cook and stir for 2 minutes or until thickened. Stir in wine and thyme. Cook and stir 2 minutes longer. Serve with beef.
