EASY MUMMY CUPCAKES RECIPE - FOOD.COM

Easy Mummy Cupcakes Recipe - Food.com image

These are high on the easy and cute factors and low on the cuisine factor. But my kids loved them and they helped me decorate. Time does not include cooling time after baking.

Total Time 50 minutes

Prep Time 30 minutes

Cook Time 20 minutes

Yield 24 cupcakes, 24 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 8

1 (18 1/4 ounce) box chocolate cake mix (any brand)
1 1/4 cups water (or as recommended on cake mix directions)
1/3 cup vegetable oil (or as recommended on cake mix directions)
3 eggs (or as recommended on cake mix directions)
1 (12 ounce) can white frosting
48 pieces Skittles candies
4 ounces dark chocolate chips
toothpick

Steps:

  • Line muffin tin with paper liners.
  • Make cupcakes as per directions on the box.
  • Let cupcakes cool completely.
  • Stir frosting as per instructions on the container.
  • Use a butter knife and frost part of each cupcake leaving a slit slightly off centered unfrosted. Leave knife marks on the frosting, do NOT make it smooth. See photo.
  • Put the chocolate chips in a microwave safe bowl and melt in the microwave on high for about 20 seconds. Time depends on your microwave.
  • Remove and stir the chocolate with a spoon. You don't want to the chips completely melted at the end of the heat cycle. You want to melt it to the point where you can stir it and get the rest of the chips to melt in the mixture.
  • Repeat until chocolate chips are melted.
  • Place two matching (same color) skittles in the slit with no frosting on the cupcakes to make eyes. Please make sure the "s" stamped on one of the skittle is hidden on the underside and touching the cupcake; and the blank side up, facing outward.
  • Then use a toothpick to dip dark chocolate in the center of the skittles to make a dot in the center of each eye, to make the eyes more interesting.
  • You've got your Mummy cupcakes.

MUMMY CUPCAKES RECIPE | REAL SIMPLE

Mummy Cupcakes Recipe | Real Simple image

Sweet and sour lovers listen up: this combination of sour candy and cupcakes is just as addictively mouth puckering as it is festive. Have you ever seen a cuter, more delectable rendition of mummies? You might be tempted to name yours, but we suggest you resist the urge—wouldn’t want to become too attached. The recipe calls for vanilla cupcakes although it’s perfectly okay to use chocolate ones if you prefer, and feel free to substitute your favorite flavor of sour candy tape and gummy candies, as long as the colors are vibrant. Napkins or plates with dark geometric patterns nicely frame the bright dessert, although they’re not necessary.

Provided by Kristen Evans Dittami

Total Time 5 minutes

Yield Serves 1

Number Of Ingredients 3

1 vanilla cupcake with vanilla frosting
1 yellow Jujubes or other gummy candy, halved crosswise
16-inches turquoise sour candy tape, cut into 2-inch pieces, then halved lengthwise

Steps:

  • Place the Jujube pieces on the cupcake to make the eyes. Layer the sour candy tape across the cupcake to create a wrapped effect.

MUMMY CUPCAKES RECIPE | SOUTHERN LIVING
These festive cupcakes are more adorable than they are spooky, perfect for a Halloween party with little ones. A homemade yellow cake recipe is the base for these cupcakes, and the method by which the cupcakes are made makes for a surface that doesn't dome but bakes into a flat and even cupcake surface. The flat surface is easy to decorate and makes the candy eyes stand out on the cupcakes. This recipe calls for a can of store-bought vanilla frosting, but you can buy any flavored white frosting that you like (or make your own)! The key to achieving the strips of frosting for the mummy wrappings is using a flat piping tip (#44 or #45) and allowing the strips to overlap at different angles. Since the cupcakes need to cool completely before decorating, feel free to have the kids join you after you're done baking to decorate each of the delicious mummies!

  • Fit a piping bag with either a #44 or #45 basketweave piping tip. Fill bag with canned frosting. Pipe a line horizontally just above the center of each cupcake. Place two candy eyeballs on the line to make the eyes of the mummy. Use the piping bag to pipe overlapping strips of frosting across the entire surface of each cupcake, avoiding covering the eyes of the mummy.
