MONKEY BISCUITS RECIPE: HOW TO MAKE IT - TASTE OF HOME
The dear friend who shared this recipe has since passed away, but I think of her every time I prepare this sweet bread. Maple syrup provides a saucy caramel flavor. I enjoy developing original recipes or altering others to suit my tastes.

- Cut each biscuit into quarters. In a small bowl, combine brown sugar, cinnamon and nutmeg. Dip biscuits in butter, then roll in sugar mixture. Layer half the biscuits in a 10-in. fluted pan; sprinkle with half the nuts. Repeat layers. Pour syrup over top., Bake at 350° for 25-30 minutes or until golden brown. Immediately invert onto a serving platter. Serve warm. Refrigerate leftovers.

- "Cream the butter and sugar together well and then beat in the egg and essence. Add the flour and Bournvita, and bind the biscuit dough together. Knead on a lightly floured surface until smooth. Roll out, not too thinly and cut out the biscuits, re-rolling the scraps in between. Place on the lightly floured baking tray and bake at Gas Mark 5 / 190?C / 375F for 12-15 minutes, until lightly browned and cooked. Leave to cool before removing from the tray. Melt the chocolate with the oil to make chocolate icing. Carefully dip one end of each biscuit into the chocolate icing and then fill the piping bag with the remainder. Sprinkle on crumbs of Flake for hair. Rub the Buttons a little so they shine and then stick them on with the icing as cauliflower ears. Pipe a variety of faces as illustrated, using simple lines. Leave to set. Triangular coloured paper hats may be popped over the hair, with the names written on them for each guest. NOTES : These cheeky-faced biscuits go down well with small boys, who like to choose the naughtiest! Makes about 20. "

- Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Open up all three cans of biscuits and cut each biscuit into quarters. Next, combine the white sugar with 2-3 teaspoons of cinnamon. (3 teaspoons of cinnamon gives it a fairly strong cinnamon flavor. If you’re not so hot on cinnamon, cut it back to 2 teaspoons.) Dump these into a 1 gallon zip bag and shake to mix evenly. Drop all of the biscuit quarters into the cinnamon-sugar mix. Once all the biscuit quarters are in the bag seal it and give it a vigorous shake. This will get all those pieces unstuck from one another and nicely coated with cinnamon-sugar. Spread these nuggets out evenly in the bundt pan. At this point, you’re going to want to melt the two sticks of butter together with ½ cup of brown sugar in a saucepan over medium-high heat. This can be light or dark brown sugar. Cook butter/sugar mixture, stirring for a few minutes until the two become one. Once the brown sugar butter has become one color, you can pour it over the biscuits. Bake for about 30-40 minutes until the crust is a deep dark brown on top. When it's finished cooking, remove it from the oven. If you have the willpower, allow it to cool for about 15-30 minutes before turning it over onto a plate.
