MOM'S BBQ SAUCE (FOR GRILLED RIBS) RECIPE - FOOD.COM

I thought I had lost this! I loved the smell of this cooking on the stove. It brings back memories of my parents and their friends making this when we spent summers in Long Beach Island, NJ. You can adjust for the amount of sauce you need. I just adjusted to make 2-3 cups for 2 packages of ribs (about 4-5 lbs.) and I used Splenda brown sugar for my husband.

Total Time 2 hours 20 minutes

Prep Time 20 minutes

Cook Time 2 hours

Yield 7 cup marinade

Number Of Ingredients 8

6 medium onions, sliced
butter, for browning
6 cups ketchup (Heinz only)
1 1/2 cups vinegar
9 tablespoons mustard (Goulden's)
9 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
4 tablespoons brown sugar
1/4 teaspoon salt

Steps:

  • Brown onions in butter in bottom of a large saucepan.
  • Add remaining ingredients and simmer 10 minutes.
  • Use this to marinate ribs that have been par boiled for 20 minutes. Marinate several hours and then grill!

Yield Makes 1 1/2 cups

Number Of Ingredients 10

1 cup catsup
¼ cup soy sauce
¼ cup cream sherry
2 tablespoons lemon juice
2 tablespoons firmly packed brown sugar
4 teaspoons minced fresh ginger
2 teaspoons Dijon mustard
1 teaspoon liquid smoke
1 teaspoon minced garlic
1 teaspoon grated lemon peel

Steps:

  • In a 2- to 3-quart pan, combine 1 cup catsup; 1/4 cup each soy sauce and cream sherry; 2 tablespoons each lemon juice and firmly packed brown sugar; 4 teaspoons minced fresh ginger; 2 teaspoons Dijon mustard; and 1 teaspoon each liquid smoke, minced garlic, and grated lemon peel. Stirring occasionally, bring to a boil over high heat; reduce heat and simmer, stirring often, until sauce is slightly thickened and reduced to 1 1/2 cups, about 20 minutes.
