MEAT CANDY (BACON WRAPPED SMOKIES) | JUST A PINCH RECIPES

Meat Candy (Bacon Wrapped Smokies) | Just A Pinch Recipes image

Three ingredient bacon wrapped smokies with a sweet, sticky glaze and creamy, spicy dipping sauce. No one can resist meat candy!

Provided by @MakeItYours

Number Of Ingredients 7

1 lb bacon (see note 1)
1 14 oz. package Lit'l Smokies (see note 2)
1/3-1/2 cup brown sugar
1/4 cup mayonnaise
1/4 cup ketchup
1 Tablespoon maple syrup
1 Tablespoon Sriracha

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
  • Cut the bacon strips into thirds.
  • Wrap one (third) piece bacon around one smokie and secure with toothpick. Place on foil lined baking sheet. Repeat until smokies and/or bacon runs out.
  • Smother with brown sugar. Really. I usually don't measure, but you'll likely need between 1/3 and 1/2 cup. Just make sure all the pieces have a good amount of brown sugar on them.
  • Bake for 35-40 minutes or until bacon is cooked through and crispy. Serve immediately OR keep warm by pouring a thin layer of maple syrup on the bottom of a crockpot, set on WARM, and layer meat candy on top.
  • To make the dipping sauce, whisk all ingredients together. Serve with the smokies. Leftovers can be used for sandwiches or as a dipping sauce for vegetables or French fries.

CANDIED BACON RECIPE | ALEX GUARNASCHELLI | FOOD NETWORK

Candied Bacon Recipe | Alex Guarnaschelli | Food Network image

This is a really easy breakfast item because you can put it in the oven, set the timer and forget about it while you make everything else and pull it out just before sitting down so it's piping hot.

Provided by Alex Guarnaschelli

Categories     side-dish

Total Time 45 minutes

Prep Time 10 minutes

Cook Time 35 minutes

Yield 4 servings

Number Of Ingredients 3

12 slices bacon, about 1/4-inch thick
Finely ground black pepper
1/3 cup light brown sugar

Steps:

  • Preheat the oven to 325 degrees F.
  • Put bacon slices in a bowl, season them with pepper and toss with the brown sugar. Cover a baking sheet with parchment or foil and arrange the bacon in a single layer on top. Sprinkle any sugar left in the bowl over the bacon. Top with another layer of parchment or foil and top it, squarely, with another baking sheet. The baking sheet will flatten the bacon as it cooks.
  • Place the tray in the center of the oven and bake for 20 minutes. Check the bacon by lifting the top tray and parchment. If it is not golden brown and fairly crispy, resist the temptation to turn up the oven temperature, and cook it for 10 to 15 minutes longer. Check it again. Keep in mind that when you remove the tray and transfer the bacon to a serving platter or individual plates, the bacon will "crisp" up a little more. Be patient!

While your smoker is heating up, mix together the salt, black pepper and kosher salt (1 tablespoon of each) into a small bowl and spread the mixture over the entire chuck roast. I would recommend that you insert a meat thermometer into the thickest part of the chuck roast so you can monitor the internal temperature as it smokes.
