Steps:
- In a large glass bowl, stir together sugar and corn syrup until well mixed. Cover with plastic wrap and microwave for 3 minutes. Stir, replace plastic wrap, then microwave for 3 minutes more or until mixture turns a very light golden color.
- Working quickly, stir in food coloring and oil, then pour mixture onto a large baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Spread mixture by moving the baking sheet or with a spatula, until about 1/4-inch thick.
- Spray a sharp knife with nonstick baking spray. Score the candy sheet into long, thin strips (about 3/4-inch wide). Peel each strip and twist. Be extremely careful—the mixture will be hot! Thermal gloves are recommended. If the mixture begins to harden, you can place the baking sheet of candy into an oven preheated to 185° F.
- Once all candy has been twisted, sprinkle with edible pearl dust. Allow to cool completely before serving.

Steps:
- Combine sugar and butter in bowl. Beat at medium speed, scraping bowl often, until creamy. Add buttermilk, egg and 2 teaspoons extract; continue beating until well mixed. Add flour, baking powder and salt; beat at low speed until well mixed.
- Divide dough in half; shape each half into 5-inch log. Wrap each in plastic food wrap. Refrigerate 2 hours or until firm.
- Heat oven to 375°F.
- Cut logs into 1/4-inch slices. Roll each slice into 9-inch rope, tapering from center to ends. Fold rope in half and twist, pinching end into a point. Place 2 inches apart onto ungreased cookie sheets. Repeat with remaining slices. Bake 8-10 minutes or until set.
- Poke hole in top of each cookie with toothpick or straw to hang icicles. Cool completely on wire rack placed over waxed paper.
- Combine powdered sugar, corn syrup and 1/4 teaspoon extract in bowl. Gradually add enough water for thin glazing consistency. Brush glaze over cooled cookies with pastry brush. Immediately sprinkle edible glitter on cookies. Let stand until set. Thread ribbon through hole in each cookie to hang.

- You will need the following beads in clear: 8mm, 6mm, 4mm round crystal clear beads (preferably faceted) and 18mm clear crystal propeller beads. You will need a white pipe cleaner or possibly a chenille stem cut in half. Twist a small loop in one end of the chenille stem taking care not to bend the thing anywhere else or possibly your icicle will be crooked. Slide on three propeller beads, slide on five of the 8mm beads, slide on 4 of the 6mm beads, slide on 5 of the 4mm beads. Clip off any chenille stem left showing on the straight end. I use an ornament hook to hang them on the tree because it assures a straight 'hang'. I made these up in little give-away kits for the kids of the people I work with and they loved them. Kids as well as parents. The next time I went to the craft store for more beads they were all sold out. You can make about 7-10 per package of beads and the cost was around 9 cents each. They look as good as the high dollar glass icicles I bought last year (they were $10 for only 6). I literally covered the tree with them rather than using the more traditional icicles from a box. Here's a little designer tree project for you. I made the icicles in graduated sizes from ten inches to three inches in just hundreds and hung them as follows:Working from the tip of each branch and working back into the tree toward the trunk, hang the longest icicle at the tip of the branch and gradually reduce the size as you work toward the trunk. Hang them about 2 inches apart till they will no longer "hang straight". If you do this for all branches you will be absolutely delighted with the effect. When the lights are turned on the twinkle is astounding and the sunlight shining through the window during the day casts an iridescent rainbow all over the room.

- Bake for 50 mins, then leave to cool on the tray for a few mins, then carefully loosen them off the parchment. Sprinkle with edible glitter or lustre powder, if you like. If left to cool completely, they may stick and break when you try to lift them off. If you are storing these, leave to cool completely, then layer in an airtight container between pieces of baking parchment. Now use the meringue kisses to make our white chocolate, orange & cranberry Christmas cake.
