Butter Toffee Bars Recipe | Land O’Lakes image

Toffee bars with a shortbread base will melt in your mouth like candy.

1 cup firmly packed brown sugar
1 cup Land O Lakes® Butter softened
1 large Land O Lakes® Egg (yolk only)
2 cups all-purpose flour
1/2 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
1/2 cup milk chocolate English toffee bits *

Steps:

  • Heat oven to 325°F.
  • Combine sugar and butter in bowl. Beat at medium speed, scraping bowl often, until creamy. Add egg yolk; continue beating until well mixed. Add flour; beat at low speed until well mixed.
  • Press evenly onto bottom of ungreased 15x10x1-inch baking pan. Bake 22- 25 minutes or until lightly browned. (Bars will be soft.)
  • Sprinkle immediately with chocolate chips; let stand 3 minutes. Swirl chips slightly with table knife or back of spoon. Sprinkle with toffee bits.
  • Cool 1 hour; cut into bars with sharp knife while slightly warm.

1 cup sugar
3/4 cup Land O Lakes® Butter softened
1 large Land O Lakes® Egg
1 teaspoon vanilla
2 cups all-purpose flour
1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
1/4 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 cup toffee bits

Steps:

  • Heat oven to 350°F.
  • Combine sugar, butter, egg and vanilla in bowl. Beat at medium speed, scraping bowl often, until creamy. Add flour, baking powder and baking soda; beat at low speed until well mixed. Stir in toffee bits.
  • Shape rounded tablespoonfuls of dough into 1 1/4-inch balls. Roll in sugar. Place 2 inches apart onto ungreased cookie sheet. Flatten each with bottom of glass to 2 1/4-inch circles. (If glass sticks, dip glass in sugar.)
  • Bake 10-12 minutes or until edges are lightly browned. (Do not over bake.) Sprinkle with sugar while warm. Cool completely.
