How to make Batata Kaapa

Potatoes,Semolina,Salt,Red chilli powder,Turmeric powder,Sambhar powder,Lemon juice ,Semolina (suji/rawa),Rice flour,Oil,

Steps:

  • Cut potatoes into half centimeter thick round slices and place them in a bowl. Add salt, red chilli powder, turmeric powder, sambhar powder and lemon juice, mix well and set aside.
  • Mix semolina and rice flour and spread on a plate.
  • Heat oil in a non-stick pan.
  • Roll potato slices in semolina-rice flour mixture and place them on the pan. Shallow-fry, turning sides, till potatoes are cooked and evenly done from both sides. Drain on absorbent paper.
  • Serve hot.

Number Of Ingredients 8

5 nos Kappa (medium size, Tapioca)
2 cups Coconut (grated)
3 Green chilly
Cumin powder (A pinch)
5 cloves garlic
6 nos Small onion
1/4 tsp Turmeric powder
Salt (As reqd)

Steps:

  • For preparing Traditional Kottayam Style Kappa, first remove skin of tapioca and cut into small pieces. Cook tapioca pieces with salt and water until tapioca pieces are softened.
  • Drain excess water and keep aside.
  • Grind ingredients: coconut, green chillies, cumin powder, garlic, small onion and turmeric powder without water.
  • Heat a kadai, put cooked tapioca and add ground ingredients on the top.
  • Cover it with a lid for 2-3 minutes for the ground ingredients to cook.
  • Open the lid, stir properly so that the coconut mix is evenly distributed.
  • Season the dish with curry leaves. Serve it with red meat or fish curry. Traditional Kottayam Style Kappa is ready.
