Grandma's Baked Beans | Baked Beans Recipe - Positively Jane image

This recipe has been passed down through the generations. The beans are yummy and really pretty easy to make!

Prep Time 20 minutes

Cook Time 60 minutes

Number Of Ingredients 6

1 pound navy beans (dry)
1/4-1/2 box brown sugar
2 tbsp ketchup
1 tbsp yellow mustard
1/2 pound bacon
1 large white or yellow onion

Steps:

  • Place beans in a pot and cover with water. Add about 3"extra water for absorption. Soak overnight.
  • Keep covered and cook on high on the stovetop - (in the same water.)
  • Bring to a boil then turn to low. Keep covered. When water evaporates add more HOT water.
  • Cook for about 2 hours - until the beans are tender and the water starts to look milky.
  • Cook off water - leaving behind about 1/4 cup or so.
  • WHILE BEANS ARE COOKING
  • ONCE BEANS ARE TENDER:
