Tofu Lettuce Wraps You Can Prepare At Home image

Number Of Ingredients 18

2 Tbsp of soy sauce
1 Tbsp of lime juice, freshly squeezed
2 tsp of chili paste
2 tsp of brown sugar
½ c of white rice, toasted and ground
1 large packet of firm tofu, drained and crumbled*
1 Tbsp of sesame oil
½ c of shallots, diced
1 Tbsp of brown sugar
? c of lime juice, freshly squeezed
1 tsp of lime zest
½ tsp of salt
1 tsp of chili paste
½ c of fresh cilantro, chopped
¼ c of fresh mint, chopped
5 green onions, chopped
½ c of roasted peanuts
2 heads of fresh lettuce

Steps:

  • Press and drain your block of firm tofu for about 20 min.
  • Once pressed and drained, crumble your block of tofu into a bowl. The best way to do this is to crumble the tofu by hand. Set aside.
  • Toast your rice in a skillet with no oil until it begins to brown. Once browned, place your toasted rice into a food processor and blend until you have smaller rice grains.
  • Next, chop your shallots, and heat up a drizzle of oil in a skillet on the stovetop. Fry your chopped shallots in the oil until they start to soften.
  • Pour your crumbled tofu into the same skillet and fry for 5 min with the shallots.
  • When the tofu is warm, pour in your rice powder.
  • Add in the brown sugar, fresh lime juice, lime zest, and salt.
  • Add chili paste to taste (it depends how spicy you like your food to be!)
  • Fry all of these ingredients in the skillet for 5 min, stirring well as you cook them together.
  • Turn the heat off, and prepare your sauce. Mix all the sauce ingredients together in a small bowl, using a whisk.
  • Chop up your peanuts, mint, cilantro, and green onions before mixing them in with your tofu in the skillet.
  • Transfer this mixture to a serving bowl or plate.
  • Wash your fresh lettuce, then chop the leaves off the stalk.
  • Serve your sauce, lettuce, and tofu filing separately, allowing everyone to make their own tofu wrap at the table!
