Cheeseburger Pie Recipe: How to Make It - Taste of Home image

This cheeseburger pie tastes so much like its namesake—right down to the pickles in it! We home-school our children so I like easy recipes like this that get them involved in cooking. —Rhonda Cannady, Bartlesville, Oklahoma

Number Of Ingredients 11

Dough for single-crust deep-dish pie
1 pound ground beef
1 medium onion, finely chopped
1 garlic clove, minced
1/4 cup all-purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon salt
2 cups shredded process cheese (Velveeta)
1/2 cup chopped dill pickles
1/3 cup dill pickle juice
1/3 cup 2% milk
Optional: chopped avocado, tomato, lettuce, and bacon

Steps:

  • On a lightly floured surface, roll dough to a 1/8-in.-thick circle; transfer to a 9-in. deep-dish pie plate. Trim to 1/2 in. beyond rim of plate; flute edge. Refrigerate 30 minutes. Preheat oven to 425°. , Line unpricked crust with a double thickness of foil. Fill with pie weights, dried beans or uncooked rice. Bake on a lower oven rack until edge is light golden brown, 15-20 minutes. Remove foil and weights; bake until bottom is golden brown, 3-6 minutes longer. Cool on a wire rack., Meanwhile, in a large skillet, cook beef, onion and garlic over medium heat, breaking beef into crumbles, until meat is no longer pink; drain. Sprinkle with flour and salt; stir until blended. Stir in cheese, pickles, pickle juice and milk. , Spoon into crust. Bake until crust is golden brown, about 15 minutes. Let stand 15 minutes before cutting. Top with avocado, tomato, lettuce and bacon if desired.

1/2 pound ground beef
1 tablespoon chopped onion
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/8 teaspoon pepper
1 tube (12 ounces) refrigerated buttermilk biscuits
5 slices process American cheese

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 400°. In a large skillet, cook beef, onion, salt and pepper over medium heat until meat is no longer pink; drain and cool. , Place 2 biscuits overlapping on a floured surface; roll out into a 5-in. oval. Place about 1/4 cup of meat mixture on 1 side. Fold a cheese slice to fit over meat mixture. Fold dough over filling; press edges with a fork to seal. Repeat with remaining biscuits, meat mixture and cheese. , Place on a greased baking sheet. Prick tops with a fork. Bake 10 minutes or until golden brown.

With a serrated knife cut crosswise through the all of the rolls at once, to divide the top half from the bottom (keeping the sides of the rolls intact). Place both halves cut-side up on a sheet tray and broil for 2 minutes until lightly toasted. (If using slider rolls, separate the tops from the bottoms and place cut side up on the sheet tray, sides touching; broil as instructed). Set aside. Heat the vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the onion and cook for 3 minutes until just slightly softened. Add the ground sirloin and cook, breaking up into small pieces with a wooden spoon. Increase the heat to medium-high. Add the Worcestershire sauce, salt, and black pepper, and stir well to combine. Cook until the beef is no longer pink and the liquid from the pan has almost fully evaporated, about 8 minutes. Remove from the heat.   Preheat the oven to 375˚. In a small bowl, mix together the mayonnaise, ketchup, and mustard. Spread the cut sides of the rolls with the mayonnaise mixture, then sprinkle with half of the cheese in an even layer. Layer the meat mixture over the cheese, then top with the remaining cheese and the pickles. Cover with the top half of the rolls. Brush the tops of the rolls all over with olive oil and sprinkle with everything bagel seasoning. Bake for 10 to 12 minutes or until the cheese is melty and the tops of the rolls are golden and toasted. Pull sliders apart and serve warm.

  • In a saute pan brown the ground beef. Drain and set aside. In same saute pan saute onion in 1 tablespoon butter until tender. Add garlic, carrots, basil and parsley. Saute about 3 minutes. Garnish each serving with chopped fresh tomatoes and dill pickle slices.
