This frosting is a rich-tasting classic old-fashioned topping to a buttery cake.

6 tablespoons Land O Lakes® Butter
3 cups powdered sugar
1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla
3 to 4 tablespoons Land O Lakes® Half & Half

Steps:

  • Melt butter in 1-quart saucepan over medium heat. Continue cooking, stirring constantly and watching closely, 5-6 minutes or until butter just starts to turn golden. (Butter will get foamy and bubble.) Remove from heat. Cool completely.
  • Combine browned butter, powdered sugar and vanilla in bowl. Beat at medium speed, gradually adding enough half & half for desired spreading consistency.

1 cup firmly packed brown sugar
1 cup half-and-half
½ cup sugar
1 tablespoon butter or margarine
1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Steps:

  • Combine first 3 ingredients in a heavy saucepan. Cook over medium heat, stirring frequently, until mixture comes to a boil and sugar is dissolved. Continue cooking, stirring frequently, until mixture reaches soft ball stage (240°).
  • Let cool slightly; add butter and vanilla, and beat until spreading consistency.
