How to Make Mason Jar Ice Cream - Delish image

All you need to make this mason jar ice cream from Delish.com is a little elbow grease.

1 c. heavy cream
1 1/2 tbsp. granulated sugar
1/2 tsp. pure vanilla extract
pinch of salt

Steps:

  • Pour cream, sugar, vanilla and salt into a 16 ounce mason jar and secure tightly with a lid. Shake the mason jar until the cream thickens and almost doubles in size, 4 to 5 minutes. It should be opaque and easily coat the back of a wooden spoon.
  • Freeze for 3 hours, or until hardened. Scoop out ice cream with a spoon and serve with your favorite ice cream toppings.

6 whole vanilla beans
1 c. vodka

Steps:

  • Cut the vanilla beans in half lengthwise with scissors or a knife. Leave a bit intact at the end if desired. Cut the beans down to fit the height of your jar if necessary. 
  • Put the beans in an 8-ounce jar. Cover with the vodka. Screw the lid on and give it a good shake. 
  • Place in a cool, dark place. Let sit for at least 2 months. The longer the vanilla sits, the stronger the flavor will be. While it's sitting, give the jar a shake every week, or as often as you can remember.
