Yield 16 servings

Number Of Ingredients 18

Cooking spray

1 c.

(2 sticks) butter, softened

1 c.

granulated sugar

2

large eggs

1 tsp.

pure vanilla extract

2 1/2 c.

all-purpose flour

1/4 c.

Dutch-processed cocoa powder

1 tsp.

baking soda

1 tsp.

kosher salt

1 c.

buttermilk

2 tsp.

distilled white vinegar

2 tbsp.

red food coloring

1

(8-oz.) block cream cheese, softened

4 tbsp.

butter, softened

4 1/4 c.

powdered sugar

1 tsp.

pure vanilla extract

Pinch kosher salt

Colorful sprinkles, for serving (optional)

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350°. Line one 8" round cake pan and one 8" square cake pan with parchment paper. Grease both with cooking spray. In a large bowl using a hand mixer (or in the bowl of a stand mixer), beat butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition, then add vanilla. In another large bowl, whisk together flour, cocoa, baking soda, and salt. Add half the dry ingredients to wet ingredients, beating until just combined. Add buttermilk, vinegar, and red food coloring, beating to combine. Add remaining dry ingredients. Divide batter between prepared cake pans and bake until a toothpick inserted into the middle comes out clean, 25 to 30 minutes. Let cool 15 minutes, then invert onto a cooling rack to cool completely. Meanwhile, make frosting: In a large bowl using a hand mixer (or in the bowl of a stand mixer), beat cream cheese and butter until smooth. Add powdered sugar and beat until light and fluffy. Add vanilla and salt and mix until combined. Cut round cake down the center, then place cut sides on 2 adjacent sides of the square cake. Frost entirely with cream cheese frosting. If using, garnish with sprinkles and serve.

Pleased in you child for these four years and opt for these very funny recipe.

Provided by TzGirl

Total Time 1 hours 25 minutes

Prep Time 50 minutes

Cook Time 35 minutes

Yield 1

Number Of Ingredients 6

200 gm Margarine (or Butter)
1 1/2 cups Sugar
5 Eggs
3 cups Flour
4 tablespoons Baking Powder
2 cups Milk

Steps:

  • Cream the margarine & sugar together. Add the eggs, beating well. Add the sifted flour and baking powder, then the milk.
  • Beat all together until well mixed & pour into a greased 20 cm x 30 cm square cake tin.
  • Bake at 190 C/375 F/Gas Mark 5 for 30 to 40 minutes until a knife inserted in the centre of the cake comes out clean.
  • To Assemble The Cake: - Using a serrated knife, level the cake top. Place the cake cut-side down. Cut it into 3 even strips (of approximately 6,5 cm each) as shown below. - Leave the centre strip whole, and cut the remaining strips into 3 segments each, as shown below. - Now assemble the cake pieces, as shown below, to form a number 4 (discard the off cuts). During both my trial runand the time made the actual cake, had to trim the one section (middle section far left pictured in the photo above) slightly so that it fitted properly, but you can only do this once you've laid the no 4 out and can see for yourself exactly where it needs to be adjusted. - Now you can ice the cake any way you like. use a simple icing made by mixing icing sugar and water together, which coloure pale lilac with food colouring powder and then covered the cake with flowers made from cutting pink and white marshmallows into slices (with scissors dusted in icing sugar) and pinching the ends to form petals. Use purple coloured sweets (candy) to make the flower centres, and dusted the spaces with glittery lilac sugar.
