HOW TO CUT A MELON – COOKING SOUP TO NUTS

How to Cut A Melon – Cooking Soup to Nuts image

Provided by Becky

Steps:

  • Wash the fruit and place it on a cutting board. Cut about a 1/4 of an inch off the top and bottom of the melon so it stands flat on the cutting board.
  • Remove the skin from the melon. Remember the product is cylindrical so you want to follow the shape of the melon. Use the first cut as a guide so you know how thick the skin is.
  • Continue working you way around the melon in smooth curving cuts to peel the skin from the melon.
  • Cut the melon in half and use a large spoon or scoop to remove the seeds.
  • Cut each half in half - If the melon is extremely large you can slice the half into 3 pieces.
  • Once you cut the melon in quarters if you trim the points the melon will lay flat and be safer and easier to cut
  • For a fruit tray slice the melon between and 1/4 to 1/3 inch thick slices on a slight bias. Once sliced you can gently press on the melon so the fruit fans out on the tray.

HOW TO CUT A MELON (GET COOKING) | HY-VEE

Provided by Hy-Vee Test Kitchen

Yield 0

Number Of Ingredients 1

1 melon, such as cantaloupe, honeydew or watermelon

Steps:

  • 1. Scrub the outside of the cantaloupe, honeydew or watermelon with warm soapy water and be sure to rinse thoroughly. This will help with spread of possible bacteria.
  • 2. Hold the cantaloupe steady on its side with one hand. With a sharp kitchen knife in your other hand, trim off a thin sliver of the stem end on each side, revealing circles of orange flesh roughly 4 inches or so in diameter.
  • 3. Stand the cantaloupe on one of its flat cut sides. Working from top to bottom, use a sharp kitchen knife to slice off thin strips of the rind around the entire perimeter of the melon. Examine the peeled melon. Use the kitchen knife to slice off any green spots that were left behind from the rind.
  • 4. Cut the melon in half lengthwise and using a spoon, remove and discard the seeds.
  • 5. Place the melon face down on the cutting board and slice into wedges. Cut the wedges into chunks.
