6 whole-wheat hamburger buns
1?½ pounds ground sirloin or ground round
1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
½ teaspoon garlic powder
½ teaspoon salt
½ teaspoon dried Italian seasoning
¼ teaspoon ground black pepper
6 2% American cheese slices
1 medium-size red onion, thinly sliced
2 mediuim-size tomatoes, cored and sliced
Ketchup and mustard (optional)

Steps:

  • Heat grill or grill pan to medium-high heat. Heat oven to 400°. Wrap hamburger buns in foil and place in lower part of oven. Bake 10 minutes.
  • Meanwhile, in a large bowl mix together the ground beef, Worcestershire, garlic powder, salt, Italian seasoning and pepper. Shape into 6 patties and grill 3 minutes. Flip burgers over and grill another 2 minutes. Top with cheese slices and cook 1 minute more for medium.
  • Transfer cheese-topped patties to warmed hamburger buns and add sliced red onion and tomato. Serve with ketchup and mustard, if desired.

This comes from a chef I worked with. He would put this on a platter with a stainless steel liner. It was litterally sizzling when I placed it in front of the diner.

Number Of Ingredients 7

1 1/2 lbs chopped sirloin
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon pepper
2 teaspoons vegetable oil
2 teaspoons butter
2 large onions, sliced into rings
6 teaspoons water

Steps:

  • Mix sirloin with the salt and pepper.
  • Form into 4 sections.
  • Heat oil in 12 in skillet.
  • Add sirloin and cook on med hi, turning, until done to your preference.
  • Remove from skillet and keep warm.
  • Add butter to skillet.
  • Saute onion rings just until crisp tender.
  • Place sirloin on plate, cover with onions.
  • Add water to skillet on hi heat and scrape bits in skillet until you form a juice.
  • Pour over the onions.

Coat patties with flour; dip into egg and then crumbs. In a skillet, brown patties in butter. Arrange in a greased shallow baking dish. Pour half of the spaghetti sauce over patties. Sprinkle with cheeses; top with remaining sauce. Bake at 400° for 25 minutes or until meat is no longer pink. Sprinkle with remaining thyme. Serve patties and sauce on buns if desired.
