This article explains how to use the tried-and-true spoon method straightforwardly. It is by no means the only finest or most efficient technique, and I welcome others with more knowledge to give comments, suggestions, alternatives, or corrections so that this discussion may be as beneficial as possible. The goal of this post is to set down the basics in order to help others clearly.

Video: While this video would not be a perfect cook, it provides a decent concept of the process. The end result was undoubtedly enjoyable; perhaps it will be updated with a more perfected procedure in the future. This cook was terminated just as the oil was cleaning away the garbage. It required a drop or two more water at first, then a little more once it became oil because the water and oil were still hazy. For the cleanest, tastiest rocks, keep cooking until the water and oil are generally free of bubbles, sediments, and milky/cloudy things. After the foamy response, you can cease cooking and collect the oil at any time, but the earlier you do it, the more contaminants it will include.

What you'll require:

Soup ladle or large metal spoon (anything metal with a rounded bottom)

Apparel ( .3g or more)

Water that has been distilled (or any clean filtered water, tap water last resort)

Baking Soda (Fresh) (Must be sodium bicarbonate)

Digital Weighing Scale

Penny, knife, nail, or anything metal (pre-1982 are 95 percent copper after 1982 are 95 percent zinc, crack likes copper).

Ice cubes, a moist towel, and a cup filled with cold water

You may accomplish this by holding the spoon or placing the scoop on the edge of anything, such as a table or bookshelf, and attaching it with duct tape or something heavy on end so it doesn't move anywhere. To make the bowl flat on your table, bend the spoon.

Crush the gear as though it bumped; the more refined, the better.

Weigh out 30 percent of your stuff in soda (so 1g = 30%).

Fill a spoon halfway with powder, smooth it out a little, and draw a couple of channels in the center. Sprinkle soda equally on top.

Add distilled water, roughly 1 ml per half a gram of powder, drop by drop around the borders of the powder and a few in the center and stir until everything is wet and a white frothy mass forms with just a little excess water around it.

Heat evenly along the bottom of the spoon, being careful not to overheat any one location. Keep the flame down around 1/2" or so and see what distance works best for your heat source. Use two lighters for the spoon and 3-4 lighters for the ladle for optimum results.

You'll see the reaction bubbling and then rising, and once it's really going, with giant bubbles developing in a semi-solid foam, you may turn the flame down a bit to keep it from overheating while it works. You will be able to see & hear the sizzle and know when to reduce or increase the heat with experience.

Bring the flame back near and apply heat evenly over the bottom until the foaming has slowed down to the consistency of a spongy white dome. The foam oil combination will likely already be floating if you use a lot of water and heat. If you use less water at first, you'll get a dry foam mass; you'll need to spray a few drops of water around the borders of the foamy dome as it heats.

As the foam dissolves into oil and water, maintain low, uniform heat. Even heat around the spoon's edges will aid in the natural collection of oil in the central spoon.

Maintain a mild heat until the oil is nearly clear with only a few little bubbles and all the bubbles and hazy stuff are gone. You may gently probe the blob to extract any obstinate junk in the center. Simmer until the water is nearly clear; if it is still hazy, continue to cook gently & add a drop or 2 of water.

If there is trash on the sides of the spoon, it typically means you need more water or even more heat on the edges. You may either heat the edges of the spoon and tilt it, so the water draws the item back in to dissolve it, or you can use a tool to scrape it back into the water.

DO NOT OVERHEAT; hurrying and applying too much heat will cause it to rapidly bubble and spew oil all over the place, vaporizing the gear and wasting it. Pull the heat off now and wait a few seconds if you notice a lot of vapor that smells like cocaine, if the water begins boiling, or if the oil starts spewing everywhere. If you need to chill the spoon quickly, it's good to have a moist towel on hand. Using your hands to swish the oil around can also help prevent it from overheating.

Ensure there's enough water to maintain the oil floating at all times. If the water level is low, add a few more drops. Because the water may evaporate, or you may not have started with enough, keep that shit afloat and away from that hot fucking spoon. If you have far too much water, the surplus water will insulate the oil, making it harder to apply the proper heat without scorching it.

Now that you have the lovely oil floating around like a seductive little egg yolk, you can either leave it to cool naturally or carefully place the bottom of the spoon on the surface of room temperature water in a glass, just enough to cool the spoon but not so much that the water overflows into the spoon, or a wet towel placed on the bottom of the spoon, or take an ice cube or two in your clean fist and drip that ice water down a prolonged finger around the edges of the o If you have a bunch of crusties on the edge of the spoon, save it for later after several collects, put that stuff in a spoon, add some water, and cook in the oil to obtain whatever goodies are in there, even if it's largely cut and soda.

After a minute or two, the transparent oil will get opaque and thicken.

Pick up the semi-hard semi-gooey glob with your metal item (a coin is preferable since crack adores copper). Stirring or scrapping the spoon itself is a bad idea because that's where the garbage is. If you didn't do any quick cooling, the oil would still be liquid. Carefully dab the glob with your tool, gradually moving it away from the water and rolling the edges in. Continue doing this for about a minute or two, and it will thicken and adhere to the tool; you can either pull it now and let it air dry, or you may keep toying with it in the spoon till it rocks, but you will also pick up some junk from the water.

Take the penny glob and set it aside to solidify on a clean surface. It helps to sit in front of a fan or open window.

While it solidifies, wipe the edges with a paper towel to absorb any excess moisture.

Allow for as much time as it takes for it to become as hard as fuck. The longer you wait, the better and crispier it will get. Around 10-45 minutes is common, but if you have the patience, 12 hours is excellent; the dryer it is, the simpler it will vape at lower temperatures, and the better you will blast off. If it's taking a long time, you've either done something incorrectly, or your gear is shoddy and full of other cuts that have also been converted to a base. One can always take slow-drying goo and roll it about on a clean surface for a minute or two, and it will solidify.

If it's a little hard but stays damp, mushes easily as well as leaves a lot of white powder on your fingers, or violently bubbles as well as spits when you light it, making your filter wet, or making it overheat as well as black and wet/gooey, it's usually because there's too much soda/water left in the rock, or you're hitting it with too much heat. If it's the hard kind, smash it up and re-insert it into the spoon with enough water to cover the powder. Recook (no soda); simply heat and swirl or swish a spoon around it will change back to oil, continue cooking, and the extra soda will boil out. If required, add water to allow the oil to float. Heat will take a minute or two to turn the powder into oil; if you haste, you will overheat & burn your items.

For better or worse, you've now created crack, so go ahead and enjoy it!
