6 tbsp distilled white vinegar
3 tbsp table salt
3 tbsp white flour
Microfiber cloth
Plastic wrap or plastic bag

Steps:

  • Combine the flour and salt in the jar.
  • Slowly add a tablespoon of vinegar at a time, stirring after each addition.
  • Stop adding vinegar when the mixture becomes a thick paste.
  • Dampen the cloth and apply the paste heavily to the copper, rubbing it as you go.
  • Put the copper piece into a plastic bag or cover the entire surface with plastic wrap.
  • Let the copper sit for 6-12 hours.
  • Remove the plastic and rinse the copper well.
  • Dry thoroughly.
  • Repeat the process if needed.

My sterling jewelry was tarnished. A polishing cloth didn't clean it. So I tried this recipe. Wow! Amazing, inexpensive... Does a great job! You'll be wowed too! Works on other metals and is safe for stone jewelry too. Don't reuse the cleaner; make a new batch each time.

1 cup water
1 sheet aluminum foil
1 tablespoon salt
1 tablespoon baking soda
1 tablespoon dish detergent

Steps:

  • Pour water into a microwave-safe mug or bowl. Heat in the microwave for 1 to 2 minutes.
  • Line the bottom of a cereal bowl with aluminum foil. Pour hot water into the bowl. Add salt, baking soda, and dish detergent; do not stir. Place jewelry on top of foil. Let soak for 5 to 10 minutes.
  • Rinse jewelry in cool water and dry well with a soft cloth.
